dansy what kind of rpm #s are you getting with which props. Also what kind of pipe are you using. The latest numbers I got from piedmont models on the new webra 145 aero x was 8200rpm with an 18x10 mez. in 95% heat and high humidity. I am heavily considering this engine becuase of its light wieght 28oz and new AAr technology that helps disaipate heat.

Hello there,
I have a Webra 1.45 in my Hydeout and I love it. It has tons of power and is very reliable. I was a little skeptical at first (I don't know why) but I am very glad that I picked up this engine. Not only is it cheaper than the OS, but it is a little better engine in my opinion. The Webra is a little bit bigger, but it has more power, weighs less and costs less. They are both very high quality engines, but if you want more bang for your buck, I would go with the Webra.
Here are the specifications that I got off of the Tower Hobbies website and the Piedmont Models website. They are for the OS 1.40 RX (NOT the injected version) and the Webra 1.45 Aero X respectively. I would not reccomend the injected version of the OS 1.40 because the injectors go bad quite frequently, and I have seen this first hand many times. This is just my opinion, however, and I hope that this helps.
SPECS:
Displacement: 1.40 cu. in.
Bore: 1.26" (32mm)
Stroke: 1.13" (28.6mm)
Practical RPM Range: 1,800 - 10,000
Max Power: 3.5 BHP at 9,000 RPM
Weight (WITHOUT ANY EXHAUST): 29.3 ozs (840g)
Suggested Prop Sizes: 15X14, 16X14
Price: $499
Specifications:
Displacement = 1.45 cu in
Horsepower = 3.95
Bore = 1.23 in
Stroke = 1.22 in
Weight = 28 1/4 oz
RPM Range = 1800-9500
Props (typical) = 16x14, 17x12, 18x10
Price $395

Hey Earl,
I have the older "R" version. I can't tell from the specs the difference between the two engines. I haven't tached it yet, but I am using 15% Morgan Omega fuel and an APC 16x13 prop. I will tach it for you soon, if you would like. I have an APC 17x13 prop that I will try soon as well. I will keep you posted.

Earl,
Next time out I will tach them.....I keep changing props.....to test but go more by feel then number, I used 25% Cool Power, my engine seem happy and very quiet around 7800/7900, the Mezlick 16 x 14 give me around 7900, but I will cerify this and check others.

One engine is in my Gator Giles 202 with a OS Header and a ES short two stroke pipe.
The other two engines have been run and flown in the Giles...and I have run them in my new Tornado's but not flown yet, will do that probably Friday or Saturday...the weather is pretty strange around here this summer(the plane are ready).
These two plane also have the OS header and the pipe is the ES Long one, total distance is around 40" from the header to the base of the stringer, when run on the ground it sounded like a very quiet set-up!
I had look at the Asano but 600.00 cdn dollar was a bit stiff....I now see that Quique sell them for a bit less, they sure look like a good system, but I think they are heavier then the ES??

The Asano that I am using is not heavy at all. I doubt that there is even an ounce of difference between the two. And with the thrust to weight ratio of these airplanes, I doubt that you would get much better performance if weight is an issue. I don't know what kind it is, Quqiue just sold it to me. It was the one that he had on his Smaragd.
