I'd like some feedback on what mounts are being used with the YS 110. I know the guys with the Excelleron's are doing the "beam" mount but is a full blown "Hyde" type mount needed?

I guess my answer right now is I don't really know. The answer probably is ,
it's not needed , just preferred. I'm sure everyone already knows the Hyde
mount is the best , so for me it's not a question of securing the engine , it's
vibration reduction. The Dave Brown/MK type mount holds the engine OK but
I'm pretty sure it does not isolate the vibration as well as the Hyde mount. I
have a Hyde type A mount that I intended to use on my Widebody with the
YS 1.10 but that engine has just been redirected to my 2nd Excelleron. I'm
thinking about modifying the nose on the Excelleron so I can use the Hyde
mount but I haven't made up my mind about that yet , maybe more work than
it's worth as the D-B mount works pretty good. My curiosity makes me want to
make the change though , so I can make a direct comparison on the same
type airplane.

I'm using a Hyde "A" mount with a YS 1.10 in a Quest. It has nearly 100 flights on it and the mount is about the only thing on the plane that hasn't required any maintenance! It really does the job and does it well. This is also about the least expensive of the Hyde mounts.

I am using the Hyde type A mount for my 110. It works very well and was easy to install into my Zafiro. The mount comes predrilled for the 110 so all you have to do is drill for holes to mount it to the firewall, easy enough.

I made quite a few modifications on the Quest fuselage, including the engine compartment. All were suggested by Eric Henderson and are documented here:

Structurally, with these modifications, the plane has been sound. These mods add little weight and a lot of strength. When the 1.10 is running properly, vertical is unlimited.
I've had to deal with some engine issues, radio installation problems and constant battle trying to keep the covering on. The original Quest had terrible covering material. I believe the new ones are covered with Oracover or similar.
