I have a global avance im starting to build tonight. I saw that there is no conversion to make the main gear NON retractable. So my question is, what are my limitations for servos. can i use a standard or does it have to be, high torque, ball bearing, metal gear and slower than a standard?? I do believe it needs to be low profile, but if you have good knowledge of the other specifics please reply asap!! thanks.

Charlie,
I did a search here on RCU and saw a post from a "NemisusDM" about his happiness with his Advance back in 2003'
Perhaps he can help if he is still on rcu or you can try to private message him...
Here is the post I found....short but speaks highly of the plane.

Good Luck

I still fly plane with retracts.
You can use regular servo on the retracts using ATV to adjust the throw, but I do not recommend it. If anything prevents the retracts to fully retract, the servo may strip the gear, if not continuously draw power off the battery pack.
A well setup retracts, stays trouble free for a long time.
If you compete in a Pattern Contest, make sure that the gears do not extend during flight. If one gear comes down during flight, I believe there is a downgrade.
If you are looking for a very slightly used retract servo, I have one of Futaba 136G available (I fly JR, but use Futabe 136G). PM or E-mail me directly.
Decision is yours.

I actually have 3 of them. 1 of them new in box. 1 clean but no box another on my current plane. Since I still have a new EZ kit that requires the retracts, I have to have at least one on hand. Guess how many sets of retracts I have.
7 sets! No idea what to do with them even they are all new.[:@]

The retract restriction in sportsman is dropped this year

Tank you, i did ot think about the amount of throw and where the servo has to stop and how to make that precise. the plane is finished now ecept for the control linkages and this new problem!! To think I have a hs 81 in there now ...wondering how to make it work!!!!!! [&o] oooops!! you probably saved my plane from a tragic landing. Thanks again for the advice.
P.s. the guy with the servo, ...I will have money at the end of the month if you can hold on to that for me? Oh and also MY avance came with the retract servo opening cut perpindicular to the leading edge, forcing me to place the servo 90 deg the other way from the manual??? Know what i mean? like this(__) not this []. anyone else have a avance that came like this out of box??

The servo is not going anywhere. Let me know if you want it.
The span wise retract servo opening ( ---- ) is very common. I think it is better than cord wise ( | ) because working with retract linkage is a lot easier.
When you are ready for retract linkage installation, let me know. I will E-mail or post a couple of pictures of my retract linkage installation (if the manual does not have it).

Based on your original comment, there's NO downgrade if a retracted gear comes out of its retract position in flight (one gear isn't locked and
comes down).
If anything FALLS OFF the plane in flight, AND THE JUDGES SEE IT, that's different. In AMA pattern, the pilot is told to land. The remaining maneuvers including the one just performed in which the infraction occured, get zeroes.
In F3A, the flight is zeroed. Consider that for a moment: I've sat the chair before where an excellent flight got zeroed because the tail wheel departed upon landing. Oh well, such is life and the FAI Regs

Anthony,
I am talking about the in-flight movement of the retract that affect all classes. anything (wheel, canopy etc) dropping during the flight.
