Since this bird was so ruined and I wasn't sure things were going to work out like they have I decieded to use spray cans.
For the white primer I'm using rustoleum painters touch sandable
For the gloss white rustoleum gloss white enamel
For the black colorplace gloss blackenamel
for the silver krylon chrome alumnium
for the yellow lusterkote
for the clear lusterkote
For touch work(black around canopy and lettering) I'm using faskcolor airbrush water based paints
So far all the colors work well together except the chrome and lusterkote. Lusterkote doesn't like to be ontop of it. Its fine underneath.
I've got one of those spray nozzles also which makes it alittle easier.
The fantasy I'm going to Airbrush the whole thing except primer most likely.

Thanks sweetpea;
So what kind of paint are you using on your fantasy?
I used spray cans on my Hotliner repair and it worked out well. But it is so humid anymore here that they will not work well for me for my new pattern project. So I am looking for an alternative and something I can match Ultracote colors easily with,
THanks

I'll most likely use PPG or something similar on the fantasy. I prefer airbrush to spray can, as you can control the amount of coating easier.
Wheel pants are done and I'll finish the front of the fuse tonite............Plan to sand down and put the first body coat on the fuse tomorrow.

Wing tube is gluing in place and I glued in the firewall.
As for painting..........I've hit a snag. This holiday weekend I ended up spending 2 days working on my 35% edge that had a fuel tank problem. And now it looks like I might leave town earlier than expected, so I'm not sure how much more I'll get done.

Well this weekend ended up a bust..........Lets see had to be at work at 4am on Friday only to get there and be puking all over the place........seems I got a bout of food poisning. I've been laid up till this afternoon. So my one weekend to work on the plane I couldn't do it.
The hurricane might cancel a couple of my trips......so I'll have to stay up late some of these weekenights to get the painting done.

Here's the fuse painted except for a spot on near the end, and not picutred there is another spot on the stab not painted.....These parts are for another color.
I've noticed that its a little blotchy...........I need to get another can of paint for the chincowl anyway so I'll try to clean things upalittle.

So far everything went as expected except the yellow paint. I'm not getting the gloss finish I expected prior to clear kote (ing) it. Some spots are glossy while others aren't. I think on my other fuse my compressor with an automotive sprayer would be better suited. Once I get this bird back in the air, I'll come up with a scheme and start tooling around with that fuse.
I've gotten lusterkote to work on smaller parts no problem, but this larger fuse I'm not having good luck, I'm sure its all in how I'm spraying though.

Well I got a tutorial on how to finish up the paint process.........
I sanded down the chincowl and fit it tonite. I then shot it with white primer........still needs a few scratchs/pinholes filled then ready for paint.
I also shot the black on the fuse. Still have a little more color to shoot before I clear kote.
Now I just need to finish up the wings and cut out the monokote trim pieces to go along with the paint scheme.

After the airbrushing..........(brushed the eclipse and the words onto the plane)
Note: That bright white spot on the bottom right of the word '"Eclipse" is just light from the flash.
Other side of the fuse is about the same as well.

well I had a few snags happen.......
Seems when I tested the paint nothing bad happened.
But it appears that the clearkote started to crack the black paint(white was fine) but only in certain areas. I think it may have to do with how thick I put it on before it dried. Well it is what it is at this point. This is going to be my backup plane anyway so I'm ok with it. We'll see what it looks like after I buff out the clearkote.
I'm also not real happy with the way the top of the elevator turned out.......debating on changing the scheme prior to me doing the wings.
things left to do......
-finish left wing
-replace motor case
-install motor
-install landing gear plate
-install radio gear
-install fuel tank
-buff clearkote
-GO fly!
I've got W-F off work so I'll try to knock out the rest then.

Things left to do......
Left wing---design on top/ Hinge sealed
Right wing---Design on top....Needs checkers top/bottom
Rudder---Design on sides
Gear plate installed
Install Elevator tray (already made)
Everything should be done tomorrow, except the motor. I'll leave that for tomorrow night or Friday
It may fly on Saturday???????
Below are some close ups.....you can just see some of the black paint raised on the first one......there is also lots of sawdust on the fuse also from fixing the wings.....

Gear plate is installed, Gear/wheelpants/wheels installed, switch installed, vent/fuel dots installed. New linkages made. Fuel tank installed.
Rudder servo installed (I'm going to have to run new pull/pull cables, but that won't take long)
Elevator servo and bellcrank installed.
Still need the design for the tops of the wing and finish the chincowl. Its actually raining here in Vegas and predictated for tomorrow also....so my "New" maiden will have to wait 1 month.
This just in..........Got my wings today for the other Eclipse. I use what I learned on painting for the second one.........Coming up with a new scheme, though I might use the Eclipse logo template again

This just in.........Sorry but I won't be finishing the plane until I get back in a month.
And as soon as its done I start working on its brother. I still haven't decided on electric or gas for the 2nd one. (the cost of batts are what are posing the question.)
I've picked out a trim scheme and will be getting the paints

Well I'm finally back.........too bad while I was gone I had an accident and landed on a 50gallon drum and bruised the bone in my forearm and bruised the nerve going to my fingers.......
I get intermittant pain the the wrist and forearm depending on the position of my wrist. Doc says 2montsh to 2 yrs to heal......I still have alot of polishing to do on the airframe to get it flight ready...........and of course its my good arm.

Well, it's good-bye Linda and hello Rita!
I guess you failed project-X! Not to worry, you don't need both hands for SI! Anyway, get back to work. You need to finish that plane. I've finally gotten my YS 140 running right but can't seem to keep a muffler on it. My plan all along was to get it broken in for my Fantasy but it seems like these 140s just like to get broken.............
Glad your back.

No, I did fine at project X........went on to finish with no problems.
Lets see I'm going TDY this next week and then I'm super busy at work until Dec. Oh and I might be TDY to KBAD around Oct 12 or so.
I'll most likely have this plane done in about a week or so, depending on my arm (it actually feels better this last week).
I've also got all the parts for the next one. Not sure why your 140 doesn't run, mine runs fine. I'd have to say Operator error

Well I've started moving on it again.
Finished installing the rudder and pull pull.
Finiished installing the fuel tank
Finished installing the motor (of which I got a diff one a YS140FZ for this plane, I'm saving the 140L for my second bird)
In the next few days I'll start polishing the clearcoat on the fuse.

I know, I know.......the crash happened back in May.....its now Oct.
It almost been 6months.....but 2 TDY's and lots of long work days just haven't given me the time to head to the shop.
Good news though is everything is done except the painting of the chin cowl.
I'm going to finish it this weekend....I might even re-maiden the aircraft on Monday since its a holiday for the Gov't!
