Rolling issues with Comp ARF Impact

Hi tggilkey
I think the DZ106 is an excellent choice of powerplant for this model. The model needs this type of power to perform well. The DZ140 was good but it lacked at time. The props I am using is a 16.5 x 12.5 W prop for calm to medium wind conditions. I like the 16 x 13 prop for really windy conditions. I plan to try a 17 x 12W for those calm days as well. I have a 4 blade but I dont think I will bother because you loose too much thrust. I like flying models which have slightly more power than you need as it helps to round off the tops of those long verticals. By the way I use 30% nitro fuel with 20% high viscosity oil- I dont like the heli fuel for our hot humid conditions in Aus. The other tip is to use the the Hyde mount with the aluminium beams (an excellent mount) The DZ160 runs as smooth as a 2 stroke in the air with this setup and I am very happy with the NMP header from central hobbies. CG is on the middle of the tube when the wings are removed.

I went to my local dealer the other day as I am considering buying another IMPACT to build. Considering I now have experience with this model and I have made templates and jigs I should be able to knock up another in a relatively short space of time.
The problem is the new kits are much heavier than the original version I purchased.
Does anyone recall the weights of the components they had before construction? There was a table somewhere with everything listed which I cannot locate any more. Does anyone happen to have a copy of it?
I recall the following from my kit
Fuselage without pipe floor inc cowl and canopy 770grams
Wings 395grams ea
Rudder 58grams
Stab????

Maybe they are finally biulding them with enough glass that it won't fly apart! lol. Sorry Peter just could not resist that one. Glad yours is hanging in there and performing for you.

I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the fuz weight in the table. Then I realised that mine included the canopy and cowl!
Here is the tail adjuster setup in my first model. The adjusters are the old style Gator wing incidence adjusters. The green tubes are drinking straws over the heads of the cap screws just to guide a ball ended hex key into the socket. On my new model I only fitted one adjuster as I realised that the engagement of the brass tube into the phenolic sockets in the tail would stop one half moving relative to the other.

PeterP,
looking at your adjustable stab pics, does the metal bar simply fit through holes in the fuse walls or is there a tube sleeve inside the fuse as well as per the stab spar tube setup??

The aluminium rod as supplied with the Gator adjustable stab kit was used and fixed to the fuse. I made some plywood donuts which slid over this rod. I simply got everything aligned and then glued the plywood donuts in with micro balloons and epoxy to the inside walls of the fuse. Rough up the surface of the rod which is inside the fuse so that it cant move once glued.
What I like about this setup is you can tighten up each stab half to these pins so it acts as another anchor point. This stops any play in the stab what so ever. The method they provide simply has too much play in it for more likings which I feel could be a contributing factor to some of these failures we have all read about.

I have very narrow strips of self adhesive soft foam tape on mine. It has a tendency to move and isn't perfectly satisfactory. I think I would try a little silicone RTV beaded carefully along the edge next time.
