Default 2M bird accessories?

As promised my first of many silly pattern related questions:

I may have an opportunity to get ahold of Sweatpeas CA models Eclipse and was wondering what gear you folks run in your 2M stuff- I am not trying to have the most hi-tech ship on the Sportsman line-up, but the deal may present itself. (I know some kid with a Tower kaos will beat me)

Servos: The fanciest servos I have are Hitec-5645 Digitals that are rated like 168 oz @6V, .18 sec.? - are those acceptable for this aircraft?
RX Batts: Can I run a standard 6V pack (assuming it is compatible with the servos) or do I need to go Lithium like Duralite?
Pipe: Central Hobbies has a BUNCH of pipes for 120-160 4 cy. (I would be running a YS-140FZ) any recommendations?

A lot of questions for a ship I may not be able to get ahold of, but either way I am destined for pattern so any thoughts?

Thanks for reading!

James,

Well the servos would be over kill, In sportsman you could go with a good coreless BB servo and you don't need that much muscle for the surfaces. As far as the battery a Nicad would be fine I would not do anything less than a 800 mah pack and that should get you thru a day at a contest of 3-4 flights per day. As far as the pipe I'm sure someone else acn help, I fly electric

Just my two cents.

wow cool! I did some research on here and it seems speed and precision are the order of the day rather than torque. An 11 lb model must need some muscle though I suppose?

thanks!

James,
You are going to want one servo with decent torque, for the rudder. Possibly two, as it looks like the elevator is on a bell crank. The ailerons you can get away with 60-70 ounces of torque. I run all Airtronics digitals.
The digital aileron servo's I run are tiny. They are 94761 At 6.0 volts they have 66 ounces of torque. They weigh .80 ounces. They cost 59.99 each
I run 94758 servo's for elevator and rudder. They have 115 ounces of torque at 6.0 volts.
All the servo's I run are fast servo's. They cost 99.99 each.
They are all good servo's. You can buy them here http://www.warrickcustomhobbies.com/...ex.php?cat=226 at those prices.

I recommend a pcm receiver.
As for battery, there is nothing wrong with running a 5 cell nicad pack in your plane. You will obviously want a good regulator though like the Jaccio perfect switch with regulator that central hobbies sells. I run lithiums though. Not required..

As for the Y.S. Good luck my friend!!!! Never had the best of luck with them.
Muffler.... A few options are the Hatori 698 which I ran I think. And also one of the carbon ones. There are many to chose from. You might want to see what sweetpea ran as he already has the exit hole but in the bottom of the fuse and pipes are different lengths..

I think I've covered your q's.
Don't think your q's are silly. Ask anything. We'll try to help..
If you can't get the Eclipse there are some good alternative's out there in the 90-110 range that may be a little easier on the pocket book.
One way or another we'll get ya pointed the right way...

Done! I finally met Sam (Sweatpea) this weekend at an IMAC comp. I was fortunate to be able to bring my new/used Eclipse home! Also the YS-140FZ

Sam was great to deal with and it is always nice to meet a fellow RCU'er, he is not too shabby on the sticks either!

All I have are standard servos and the higher torque Hitec's like 645MG, 945, and a couple 5645 Digitals. So I am going to use the 5645's on Rudd. & Elev. (Elev. is a bell-crank) and 645's on ailerons.

I need to get some scratch together for a Hyde mount and ES/CF pipe. (Anybody got these used? Otherwise I will order from central-when ca$h permits!) Sam gave me the header which was awesome!

I hope to be a regular on this forum as I try to get her ready to go-- a BIG thanks to everyone in here who has been SOO helpful, and to Sam who made me a deal because he wanted to help a newbie, when he could have kept it as a backup or sold it for MORE $$!

Pattern is NOT dead, after 25 years flying I plan on FINALLY contributing my .02 cents to pattern, with my 81 year old dad calling for me! (Yikes, what a combo!)

See ya out there!

James here's another pipe to consider.

Good to see the enthusiasm from a 25 year flyer, Pattern has brought me back from the dead as well.
