Default Center of Gravity for Sapphire II -- The old Model Tech ARC

Anyone know what the CG is? I don't have any plans or the construction manual. I emailed Wolfgang Matt, but he has not gotten back with me and may not. Thanks in advance.

Hello
I don't know CG of this plane but I use this simple soft computing to calculate the chord on a multi panel wing, and locating the centre of lift (use 30 % to 33 % leading of mean aerodynamic chord)

I do not know if this will help, but I am building a Sapphir (not a II) and they list the CG at 175mm from the leading edge.

I do not thing they original and the II are all that different so this will give you a starting point.

You are not missing much by not having the construction manual or plans. The Model Tech construction manual is a generic one that has pictures for a high wing trainer. The plans are on five sheets of typewriter size paper at about 1/3 scale. From the plans, I calculated the CG for the plane should be about 135mm from the leading edge. On my Saphir II I have the CG a little ahead of 145 mm. At that setting, the elevator position for level flight changes slightly from upright to inverted. The rolls and stall turns are good. Spins are OK and snaps are poor. A more rearward CG may help the snaps but my plane is heavy and the Saphir II does have a long wingspan. Moving the CG back might not be that beneficial. If you wish, I could scan the plans and send them to you.

Many thanks for your reply. I really don't need any help plans wise to put the pieces together, but I would be grateful if you wouldn't mind scanning the pages so I can take a look at that CG drawing. 145mm sounds about right.
Best regards,
