Or are you referring to the Eclipse designed and kitted by Henry Piorun in the 90's? PAC still list it, but I'm not sure if anything is actually being produced by them these days...

I'll give you my impression of the Eclipse from CA..and this is a situation that happened to me, so take it for what its worth. I had a really nice flying Eclipse a couple of years ago. Plane flew really well and was really happy with how it looked. About 3 weeks before the NATS I was flying the plane and the canopy came off and struck the horizontal stab and cracked it pretty badly. Fixable, but still wanted to replace it, so I called CA and talked to them. I was informed that they didnt have spare parts for the plane, and that I would have to buy a new fuse to replace the canopy. I asked how in the world you can sell something and not have spare parts (afterall the canopy is a separate mold), he said unless they had a damaged fuse there, it would be impossible, to which I replied, I've seen your glass work, I'm sure you have some...this didnt make the gentleman happy as you can imagine, so we said our goodbyes, and I fixed my canopy as well as could be expected in 3 weeks..it was OK, but certainly not what it looked like previously. I went on to make the finals at the NATS in Masters and was approached by Marcelo Columbo the designer and we talked about the canopy, and he proceeded to ask me why I hadnt called to get a replacement, I told him I did, and told him the story, and then he said, no, we can take care of that...I asked why his distributor had said that, and he couldnt give me an answer..I told him no thanks and that I'd never deal with CA again. I know several people who ordered Genesis kits that had questionable glasswork. Honestly, I wouldnt touch a CA plane, but thats just my opinion. There are many other great designs to be had...the Focus II is a great plane, for a great price. Mike Hesters Black Magic series is amazing and its a kit, all of the Oxai stuff is wonderful, and there are many many more.

I have 2 Eclipse's now and a previous one that is now deceased. I can agree with Archie on trying to do business with CA Models. I ordered a brand new Custom finished airplane and it came in damaged. Then it took another six months to get the second one to replace the first. Overall my entry back into pattern was delayed about a year and half. I was able to find a couple of kits through some friends and purchased those and that is what I am flying now. As for the quality it's average. Some good and some not so good. I like the airplane and have enjoyed flying them.

I actually have an Eclipse that was damaged in shipping, I am considering making a mold of this fuse since you can not get them anymore. I really like the look of the Eclipse.

I flew a friends Eclipse last weekend. It was a kit version and unfortunately came out too heavy, but still flies very nicely.

Arch, you mentioned that your complaint was with Marcelo's distributor . . Surely CAModel can't be held responsible for what a so called "distributor" says. WOW, we have a couple of Hobby Shops here that I wouldn't deal with because of my experiences with their handling of a JR product in one instance and an Eflite product the other . . I certainly wouldn't hold JR or Eflite responsible and still buy the products today.

Did you try to ring CAModel direct?

Thanks Jeff...

Gotta love the base-clear coat system..
I do most of my planes in this scheme now.. It's really visible in the air.
