Jim Stovall got me for $550 on the same series of ads on Flying Giants that brnrbbr got hit on. Turns out we both bought the same plane so Mr Stovall can no longer claim that it was an accident due to shipping or a problem with the mail. Pure fraud. I believe the authorities in North Aurora Illinois will be interested in this guy.
For everyone else: BEWARE. Don't even think of buying from or selling to this guy.

First, absolutely no offense intended:
If you have his name and physical address, why not go after him in terms of civil and crimal issue? Jim Stovall has been operating this way for 5 years - per documented scams, becasue no one does anything about it. They caulk it up as lessons learned.
Go after him. + $200 and it's a a FELONY in most states. It's ridiculous that he gives out a real name, a real address, and a real phone # and continues to screw people.
It makes me want to go into the fraudulent business.. I'd be much better at it.
Call his local PD - get a white collar detective. It's ashame I've had to push it to go to this point. Where he works has even been documented - it's easy to make his life (legally) diffiicult.
Not doing so is simply screwing fellow RC'ers.

I'm working on some local contacts to help before I have to make a road trip. I left a message at his home phone today to pay back my $1000. Your nieghbors are always a wealth of info because people love dirt about there nieghbors . That's a tax collectors trick. I will never let this go until I get my money!! Even if it cost me twice what he owes me!! I don't care!! I will not let this guy rip me off and do nothing.

So, those of you who have shipped to him, or paypal'd him, you have his addy right.. GO GET HIM TO PAY UP.... I would.. [sm=lol.gif]
I almost had the same happen on a recent transaction sorta from a guy on RCU.. I payed for a QQ Yak NIB, he shipped, damaged in shipping by ups, ups denied the claim, then after 2 months, the ups store finally got the money back. I received notification a few days ago that Extreme Flight shipped me a new one.. I opted for the EF instead of the QQ this time.. It hasn't arrived, supposed to be Tuesday.. I thought I had lost the money as he said I had to wait for the refund from ups like it was my fault or something.. Which is odd, because the guy owns a online hobby store.. He did answer my emails and took my phone calls though.. Less frustrating than getting no answer like you folk...
Who can you trust online anymore? We had this come up over the holidays with things that should have arrived a week or two in advance of Christmas, but didn't show up till after they were in stock.. Which wasn't noted or mentioned in the delivery dates in the confirmation emails.. Was talking with my family over this and we came to a strange conclusion.. Is it almost to the point that we will start buying in the stores again to avoid the online scams, the out of stocks that aren't mentioned, the risks of having out card numbers stolen, and also the risks of having our packages tossed around by the shipping companies that could care less what's in the package with the big words FRAGILE written all over it?

I talked to the N. Aurora police dept today. (Officer Voss) nice guy! He said for everyone who was ripped off by Jim Stovall to go to there local police and have them send some official paper work to him. He was very interested in my story and was checking on prior complaints that may match our story. I asked if defrauding people for $1000 (me!) was a felony charge and he said YES! Lets get this guy so he can't do it again. I found a post as far back as 2002 on runryder were he allegedly didn't send out a Heli and took the money

Good news , The PD has issued a warrent for Jim Stovall. 3 counts of theft by deception. They have also taken a photo of what is believed to be Eric's Evoulution in Jim's basement It would have been 6 counts but after the visit from the police Jim was feeling the heat and refunded 3 of us. If he doesn't turn himself in he could be picked up anywhere including his place of work. This guy has been doing this stuff to the RC community for years and finally with the help of the N. Aurora PD it looks like he will be able to add FELONY to his resume.Let's hope when he faces the judge in court he gets jail time plus pay restitution. If you get ripped by someone don't be afraid to make a post because chances are there is others that may have been taken by the same crook. Be Cool!

The only bad news is that, for now, my Evolution is evidence. Still it pays to do things the right way and let law enforcement do their job. Of course, they can't do it without our support.
I don't really care if my plane returns to me in not as good a shape as it should, nor if I get my money, because it is more important to get a guy like this out of our hobby.
Also, I would like to thank my fellow modellers who both stood by me through this and also who provided solid guidance as to what was the right thing to do.
Regards,
Eric.

ALERT!!! I got some info that Jim Stovall was inquiring about an add posted on RCU using the username -- G450-- The seller picked up on the name. I wonder if he was trying to pull off another scam. Have a good one and keep watching for this guy!

Jim Stovall also goes by "Dennis or DB Stovall"-- email address: [email protected]
I know him! I wish I read this earlier. I could have helped you guys locate him. I know where he lives, where he works, where his parents live and work, etc... Anyway, I really hope he gets what he deserve.

I live in Geneva as well. PM me and let's fly sometime! I talked to some buddies who know Jim and face to face, he seemed like a nice guy. I just can't believe he's doing this to a relatively small community.

This is true. Jim made me an offer for an add using the G450 user name. He claimed the "make offer" feature was not working and made
a private offer. I got the idea he was trying to keep the deal from public view. I refused the deal. Beware.

DB Stovall, now that's funny! what's he think he is DB Cooper. For those of you that know this guy ask him about how he had to turn himself in on that warrant or they were going to pick him up at his work. I guess he paid the bail until his court date. He probably used the money he took from all those RC guy's over the years. The police have the pattern plane in evidence storage that Eric Henderson sent to Jim and never got paid for the deal.Go ahead ask him to his face about this stuff. According to the police when they talked to him at his work he was ready to piss his pants and pass out! I hope all you guy's out in Aurora and at your local fields will watch out for this guy.

Hey guys the missing Evoulution is at my friend Bobby's house. It's actually in pretty good shape despite what it's been thru. I have to admit that it's a pretty nice plane. As of now Bobby and I are looking for a needy local flyer ( preferably young and interested in competing in pattern) to take the plane. Eric would prefer that it be handled that way. I really admire how cool Eric has been thru this process.
If that doesn't work we may auction the plane off at my pattern seminar next may here in Chicago and give the proceeds to the team fund raiser.
The major damage to the plane is on the wing where the police department put a big sticker on it and it ruined the covering on the wing. The plane will probably require a new covering on the wing. It's all set up for an OS 160. Mike
