Default os 140rx Pipe

hi all
I saw in central hobbies site that os 140 rx engine will run fine on most 4 stroke pipes and 60/90 2 stroke pipes.
did anyone use this set up?

Thanks
Padelis

Padelis,

Check this web sites. I suggest that you get a pipe design around the engine. I don't think the 4 cycle or 60-90 pipes are good choices. If I were you, I will go Aeroslave or ES pipes with proper volume for the engine.

Good luck,

Padlis,

I have used OS140RX for one year with the OS's tuned silencer (T-6010). I felt it is difficult for this engine to perform its preferable power even with this silencer without correct adjustment. Therefore I guess it might be possible to get expected power with other tuned pipes or silencers, but it might be more difficult than I have experienced.

It is drop dead 100% Reliable. Excellent engine. I put the OS 140EFI Stainless bearing in right from the start. But that's it.

I had one as well that ran great and put out great power. dennis has been beating me for years with his. The only time I came close to beating him a round was when he forgot to tighten one of the glow plugs in it

Let me know if you need a pipe for that engine, I may have one of the OS pipes in the shop somewhere.

Within the next couple of days I will be firing up an OS140RX for the first time. I will be using the Aeroslave CF pipe set to 31" from the engine exhaust flange face to the rear of the pipe (not including the stinger/outlet pipe).

I will be flying it on the weekend. My last years plane had an OS160FX with the same Aeroslave pipe, so I will report back with a comparison of the two. The OS160FX on this pipe made great power.

JB

PS. I would imagine that the 4 stroke pipes would probably only work like an expansion style muffler and would NOT allow the OS140RX 2 stroke to develop power to it's full potential . . it may even reduce the power. Performance 2 strokes need a properly "tuned" pipe to work at optimum.

I used that engine in an PL Smaragd for about 4 years, standard O.S. pipe and header. All I can say is I love that engine. 100% reliabe and trouble free. The only thing that happened to me was that I had to change the front bearings after 40 flights, only the first time, then they last for about 200 flights. Be carefull with you airplane weight. Less than 4500 grams its OK, more than that you will have difficulties in the top of the manouvers.

Now i am trying to put the weight down to my impact (Have a gas 30cc engine) and i have buy a new os 140rx (not EFI)
