Holy Mackerel!
I did not agree with or make up the results
but 2-1 is hard to refute .
as for the cost some guys can't wait to buy some high priced all carbon etc.. model -so don't squeek about costs
In my book -those mult thou RTF models are a grossly overpriced approach to getting a good model.
A good friend who attended (and his son flew in the Championship) told me what he spent to go to and stay in a hotel in Italy
makes my old sojurns to th TOC look like a trip to the local JC Carnivals .
Obviously the cost does not bother these guys .
I figgered it up
all told ,one could buy a nice car with th total cost some guys spent on this meet.
How many of you can actually or actually would construct your own model?

Dick,
I have decided to make the change to electric this year and will
follow your lead and go with A123 power. Oh, and I definitely will
not be flying one of those mega bucks airplanes. I'm downsizing
to an all balsa 90-110 airplane so maybe I can put some fun back
into this pattern thing. Now I just need to sell my 2 meter ship !

Tommy,
If you are looking for lower priced batteries, before going with A123, you might want to check the following link.
They sell Zippy Lipo packs with very good prices.
hobbycity(dot)com
Look under the link Lipoly search for Zippy 5000mah 5s1p 20-30C packs.

What a marvellous covering job on the Osiris.
I'm curious about the spinner-mounted plettenbergs. How can you have a 1,99m long plane with such a spinner and still fit in the box? 1,99m is according to ZN lines website.

Humm.. I can see you have a flair for advanced math's there RainerSeubert.
Yes, a 1.99m plane (including a standard F3A type spinner) fit's a 2m box.
But that isn't a REGULAR spinner, it appears much longer. So what gives?
Has he reduced the rudder size?
The judge at the time... was he the one with a dog and a white stick?
What's the story.

Yes the spinner is very long. The last time I saw something that long and round with an electric motor in it was in a bedroom drawer.

No modified rudder or so ....... (why don't you ask Ola, he saw it)
If u think it's too long try this one

Hi
They don't fold, it's just that when using the Plettenberg 30-10 evo mounted in the spnner you must use folding-type of propellor blades. Se the central picture two posts above.

Nice one...
And that concave alloy spinners in the third picture... thats designed to add downline breaking right.
The cunning Teutonic engineering mindset![8D] No end to the genius.

RE: European Championship 2008 - Brescia Italy
We have since beginning of the year a 1% tolerance for weight and size in F3A, this means max. 202cm are allowed for the length.
I remeber that we wondered that there was about 5cm space in length of the Osiris of Gerhard Mayr and the model is just below 2m.
Therefore we assumed that the official "box" for measuring during the EC was already including the tolerance.
Maybe that's the reason, why Bernd's Integral fitted into the box ?!

Hi Tommy,
I felt that having a non-rigid connection between the prop and model was a good thing. As you cannot two point mount this motor like you can a glow motor I feel it important to reduce flight loads placed on the motor, and as a side benefit if there is any sudden change in blade loading during corners etc. the blades are free to move and not tug on the nose of the model. From my perspective it appears to be working well.
Some side ++'s I noticed with these props are, a) they are light (70g for a 21x15), b) quiet, c) the blades have a thin profile at the root, which to me at least gives them a less agressive feel than other props. You can roll on the power and the plane never jumps or rapid accelerates, its a very constant speed setup.
Sizes available are 21x14.5, 21x15, 21x15.5 and 20.2x16.
Using this setup like I have is a one-of for the moment, I have a hub drawing, but no one is commercially producing them as yet. Plettenberg is in the process of going into serial production on the hub but I am uncertain of the availability. I know of two others who have had their own hubs made recently to experiment with this setup as well.
I attached the hub drawing if anyone is interested, its actually a .pdf file so you made need to save it and change the extension from .txt to make it work.

They are always rotating, I have a brake switch for certain manuvers (like the figure 9), but its not enough braking to stop the prop. I set about an 800 rpm "idle" speed on the ground, and come back off the power to that point for everything except where I want the brake activated.
The fore/aft position of the blades changes as you apply more power or use more brake. I am not exactly sure how much but they certainly move around a bit.
