I would like to know about the reliability of this motor . I was in pattern before when the YS was the 1.20 SC . It was ok but more bad than good. I could fly one day run it dry and go back in three days and it would not run, having done nothing to it but put it in the garage . I would like to know about any day to day issues the 1.60 has. Also Bearing life ,any swollen gasket problems ,starting problems , the most common stuf that happens to them.
I need good reliability as I dont have a lot of practice time so I need it to run well when I can, that was always the problem before and mostly what forced me out of the pattern game then. YS had the motor more than I did. I dont want to go down that road again. I hope the saying that you have to own two of them is not true anymore.
Thanks kirk

Great reliability (in my opinion) - once set up correctly, one shouldn't have to mess with the motor except to adjust the valves, change the plug and replace the bearings/piston at scheduled maintenance intervals.

Hi Kirk!
Reliability is not an issue with this engine. Otherwise, I'd be flying electric
See me at Harvest this weekend and I'll answer any question you may have about taking the plunge. You won't be sorry.
The whole thing is in initially setting up the engine. After that, if something changes, do NOT touch the needle valve because that isn't the problem. if you're the type that feels the need to turn a needle before every flight, then don't get a DZ. These things are SOLID.
Keep the fuel filtered, replace the plug once in a while, and occasionally check the valve adjustment. That's it.

I agree with Mike. Mike and I are both OS 1.40RX converts. The 2 strokes were bullet proof, but the 1.60 and 1.70DZ's have been every bit as user friendly if not even better. I had 3 full seasons on one of mine with a BUNCH of flights and it still ran great. Sent it back to YS and all he did was change the gasket set and put new bearings in it just because. Didn't even have to adjust the valves. The motors when set up correctly run great. if you have any setup questions you can go to the YS page on RCU and Troy will be glad to help. He knows the engines inside and out and can help with any weird setup questions you might have. Follow his setup and you can't go wrong,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but......Cool Power 30% heli is temporarily discontinued due to the nitro shortage. I just got the word last weekend myself.
I don't have any more details except the 20% is still available.

Kirk,
... My personal + / -
+ : What stroker`s concern, perfect for F3A ( throttel management, brake , power curve ) stable when set properly , easy to operate , start etc. ( no problem day to day ), no specific weak parts.
- : YS quality control .... hmm ... ( Production control complete engine / individual parts , system and overview what modified parts concern ).... Or in other words ;" YS-Lottery" ... This problem have followed YS for many years ... Problems can occur without finding any specific unless you spend your time to investigate in tolerances etc...
They need to be taken care of, as a part of the hobby ( maintenance , operation ) at least if they shall work properly ... Those things have not change since older days ...
Well, i am still flying YS , soon electric :-)
