Anyone can tell me if the Hitec 5845 would be okay for use in a 120 sized patternship? Its a digital servo of 72 oz.in @ 4.8V. Thanks!

Yes it would work fine. With pattern, keep the throws very small. Don't make the throws like a 3-D bird (+- 35 degrees) and cut them down with the transmitter. Instead, use the mechanical advantage of the linkage so the servo is moving 100% of its range to get the very small throws used in pattern.

I used the HS-255MG (65OZ analog) mini's in my PL Partner as an experiment flying FAI. They worked just fine with little wear and no problems. The HS-5845 works just great and if you are running a newer TX that allows you to ajust the speed of the servo with the radio,... even better.
Sgsterling is also very correct, make sure the geometry of the arms are correct and you maxamize your linkage set up to take advantage of the servo.

I noticed that the mentioned servos are programmable. I got a Hitec programmer from Tower for $26 that lets you set the dead band, end points, servo speed, etc.:

Thanks for the replies guys ... so I guess its no issue using the 5845 on the rudder too then.
Bill ... 225s??? You got steel gonads! Why the issue of adjusting speed? Please enlighten me.

The 5485 is a new servo. Replacing the 5475...but appears to be a cheaper one bearing setup instead of having two like the 5475.

Tianci,
The new high end radios like the 14MZ, 12FG,12Z Futaba's allow you to adjust the speed of the servos if so desired. I am not sure if the JR TX's do it,...I think the 12X does?
I have always run a slower rudder servo, especially on my big stuff! Why? Well,...the slower speed provides a more exponential feel without using lots of Expo. to soften the stick response. It can also help snap entries and exits as well. The digitals today are very fast and the 2048 or 2.4 is much more responsive than the older 1024. Its' just another way to help fine tune your machine to your liking without having to use programmers. The programmers (HItec) are great tools to fine tuning the dead band width, speed, EPA, etc,..lots of kool stuff.
Hope that helped,...

Bill ... the 9X has that function, I don't use it because I am a born natural, I just adjust with my fingers accordingly. ROFL! Just kidding!!! Okay, I get what you mean now. Slows things down without the need for too much expo. I need to try it. Am out of a patternship now till I pick up the Dick Hanson Excess from a pal.
