Keeeeeeeeef.

I would stay away from Asano. Mine fell to pieces. Stick to Hatori would be my advice.

Asano headers are great. Their pipes, I'm not too fond of. The Hatori works well.

I am of the same opinion...
Use Asano header and Hatori exhaust. My Asano short pipe fell apart after approx.60 flights. Great sound and power while it lasted though.....

Going back to the original question, I've not seen the Asano exhausts advertised anywhere in the US in the last 4 or 5 years.

Jon,

If I'm not mistaken, Quique was importing them when they were here. I'm not sure that anybody is importing them now.

This year, I ordered and received Asano headers from ProBuild in the U.K. I was unable to find any U.S. supplier.

There is no US supplier for Asano.

http://www.orihime.ne.jp/~cac3619/RC/ Asano Website says the carbon muffler/pipes have all be discontinued.

Mr. Somenzini did import a few of Asano headers and pipes about 5 or 6 years ago, but it was for a very short time.
Back in middle of 90s, I've sent e-mails to various Japanse websites and stores for those, but only the Hobbynet was the place that actually had them.
I got my first Asano pipe from Hobbynet for the YS53. It actually was the 30 size tuned pipe which I still have. It has more than a 100 flights on it with YS53/63. So far, I got 60 & 140 size used tuned pipes. I love them. 140 size will be back in work with OS 140RX this fall.
I have some ES and a couple of Hatori pipes as back up also.
With current trend, Hatori may be the best way to go unless there is a Japanese who will actually help us to get one.

What actually was wrong with Asano pipes??

Their carbon pipe leaks after awhile, both long & short ones.

In my case, the pop rivets vibrated loose so the inner baffle also came loose. This became visable as the pipe started to leak. When these rivets start to vibrate, they create a much larger hole in the outer carbon lining. I put in slightly larger pop rivets and sealed them off using high-temp silicone, but I could not fix the inner damages to the baffle... My guess is that the holes in the inner baffle flange has been ripped open.
It is too bad really, as I really like the sound and looks of these pipes! I've ordered a few Asano pipes and manifolds from Harada (http://www5f.biglobe.ne.jp/~aircraft/index.html). Painfree and fast!

For trouble-free shopping from Japan, try RCJapan; https://www.rcjapan.org/Home_.html - Always great service!

Exactly the same happened to mine except I repaired mine with high temp, fibre optic epoxy (the stuff you have to bake in an over for it to cure). This worked superbly on the outside but eventually the internals totally collapsed - you couldn't even blow through it! I contacted Asano who said that I had ran it too hot which is complete rubbish as it was practically out in open air and was never run for extended periods on the ground.

Interesting to note that a lot of the top Japanese pilots used to use Asano pipes and, as far as I know, they use Hatori now.
