It's come to my attention that I had inadvertently left off information for the FAI schedule on Sunday.

FAI will fly F11 on Sunday.

The Flyer is being updated and should show the change tomorrow.

Don,

Enjoyed meeting you and Joseph today. Sorry Arch, Don wasn't in Virginia today. He was in Miami for business and vacation. He and his son came down to the AMPs field and flew with us today. Wasn't the best of weather today but I think Don and Jim Woodward both got in two practice rounds each of the P11 and F11 sequences.

Someday I want to come out and attend a D3 contest. Seems like D3 has a good groups of guys and sounds like fun. Long drive from Cali. Maybe when the recession is over and the business is doing better. I think it would be fun to travel to a different district once a year to attend a non local contest.

Chris - you would certainly be more than welcome to come to a D3 event.

Bob and Juan,

Thank you for proposing earlier in the week that we run through some of the P11 and F11 sequences for some practice judging and flying. It just worked out nice that Don's travel plans brought him down to Miami. Perhaps later in the week he can also comment on the field and such. You guys wanting some practice judging time is indicative of the club taking the contest seriously and wanting to make for a quality event.

Selfishly, its always nice to have someone like Don stop in and even though it was windy, we were able to get a couple rounds in. He was able to fly my Passport half a flight and make a few coaching and setup comments as well. Thanks Don for sure! If you can return in January for the contest, I would gladly loan the plane to you.
Thanks guys for the coaching and judging spot,

Jim

Things are coming together for the contest. I've received confirmations from 14 pilots so far who plan to make the contest. Most are flying sportsman or Intermediate with one advanced, one masters and two FAI.

There have been rumors of some big names showing up but no confirmations. I've been told that we would be doing good to get half the pilots to preregister, so if that's the case, 30 pilots would be great.

There are three pilots coming in on Wednesday and Thursday to practice. The field will be open to club members on Wednesday and Thursday and will be closed for general flying Friday thru Sunday. Electricity will be available Wed. thru Sunday for any pilot flying electric powered planes.

If anyone needs hotel or contest info, please send me an e-mail:

So far I've heard from 16 pilots. In case anyone is wondering, here is the weather forecast for the weekend. Every forecast for South Florida includes a chance of rain. We don't think much about it. At least the temps will be warm.

Bob

Friday...Partly sunny with a 20 percent chance of showers. Warmer. Highs in the lower 80s.

Friday Night...Partly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of showers. Lows 60 to 64.

Saturday...Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers...then chance of showers and slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Breezy. Highs in the lower 80s. Chance of rain 40 percent.

Saturday Night...Mostly cloudy with chance of showers and slight chance of thunderstorms. Lows 59 to 63. Chance of rain 40 percent.

Sunday And Sunday Night...Partly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of showers. Highs around 80. Lows in the upper 50s.

Bob, Juan and AMPS Club Members

Chris and I want to thank you for putting on a great contest and you folks have one of the nicest fields we've flown at. We are sorry we had to leave early, but it couldn't be helped. We hope you have this contest again next year and we would glad to come and fly with you guys. I hope to see some of you guys up here in Lakeland next month. Again thanks for the great hospitality and we'll see you guys soon.

Lot of picture's were taken. Very bad weather, and Sunday morning, only one round, heavy rain, wind was atrocious both day's. Couple planes went in.

We should see something in the next few days. The CD was Bob Cox, his e-mail: [email protected]

I'm working on a full report and article for the clubs newsletter. I'm also waiting on the pictures from the photographer. I hope to get something up in the next day or two.

In short, we had a fantastic time. Thanks to all the out of town guys who came in to fly with us. We all made new friends. The wind and rain were the biggest detraction, but that didn't really seem to bother too many pilots and we all had fun anyway.

There were a couple of planes lost. One to structural failure and the other to bad luck.

The most positive thing is the number of club members who came out to watch and have contacted me for help choosing a pattern plane or want me to build a plane for them. We had nine club members competing in the event and gained a few more. Three years ago, I was the only person flying pattern in our club.

Aint Pattern Great!

If new people asked on how to get into pattern and more will come, then it was a clear success. Bad luck on the rain.

Good luck on the next one, hope is soon.

Guys - January 15th & 16th 2011 is the date for this event. Miami in January kicks the pants off other climates thats for sure (13 this morning in northern AL).

Who can make it this year?

I received an e-mail from Mr. Ken Blackwell who has been organizing the schedule for D3. He was informing us that the Silver Palms Pattern Contest has been postponed till March 19th and 20th. If there any questions please post them and I'm sure someone will be able to get a correct answer for you.

Thanks
Larry
