RE: Mk Synergy 63 Kit

Yes , but it is a simple T-Beam type isolating mount which are quiet cheap , of course a hyde mount would be nice but for this size model they may be overkill

wow... this makes MK kits look really easy to build... btw, can u take a picture of the landing gear on the plane upside down?

RE: Mk Synergy 63 Kit

MK kits ARE easy to build as long as you don't need instructions that spell out every single little step. While there is a "little" text on the plans, you rely on the diagrams much more. The parts fit is so good that if you find a part that doesn't fit, it's because you did something wrong earlier in the contruction.

I am amazed the YS 63 is not enough power!?

I have the ARTF Synergy 90 with an OS 91FX and genesis pipe and its goes vertical like a scalded cat, accellerating all the way. weights 7lbs 2oz

I finally finished mine. I didn’t like the wing construction, so I made wing in foam and balsa instead. Canopy and engine cover in carbon. I substituted all plywood with carbon/divinycell composites.

Ill probably do the maiden in a week or so... I'll let you know how it flies…

SWEET!!! I am thinking of getting myself one.... maybe at the end of the year. BTW, is that the new YS 63 S u r using there?

one thought, the wing looks a little big for the plane...... (as seen from the first pic......)

Yes, Ys 63 and hatori pipe.

The wing does look big in the first pic. I guess it has something to do with the camera angle and the camera objective.
The fuselage is as long as the wingspan, give or take a few mm.

RE: Mk Synergy 63 Kit

the new YS 63 S or the old one? btw, did you carbon fiber the engine mount area and the firewall as well?

HenrikJohansson 04-01-2004 08:16 AM

RE: Mk Synergy 63 Kit

It's the old one, not the S.

And yes, the enginemount and the firewall are carbon as well... :) (I like carbon, It looks sexy...)

RE: Mk Synergy 63 Kit

haha.. yes i have to agree... that is a very good carbon fiber job u got there... other than the wings and the addition of carbon fiber around the plane.. any other changes u made to the plane?

where can i purchase mk kits ?

RE: Mk Synergy 63 Kit

Singapore Hobby lists MK as one of their featured brands. Kit availability seems to come and go. You should contact them to see what they currently have available. http://www.singahobby.com/

Hobby Net Japan occasionally lists MK kits and accessories as well. http://www.hobbynet-jp.com

RE: Mk Synergy 63 Kit

Sadly, It seems MK has stopped producing kits. SIngapore Hobbies hasn't gotten any MK kits in at least 10 months. I've heard they may be going to ARFs ([&o]), maybe they are converting to CNC Laser cutting... I sure hope so. They have been producing great kits for decades!

RE: Mk Synergy 63 Kit

I have always found MK's die and saw cut parts to be as good, or better, than even the best laser cut kits.

A laser cut kit does not automatically mean the parts fit will be perfect. If the kit cutter does not put forth the appropriate efforts to assure perfectly cut parts, then they might as well be using dull or poorly formed dies for the fit of the parts will be equal to those methods. Indeed, some kit cutters who use lasers produce kits that are nearly unusable.

MK's dies and band sawn parts have been of the absolute highest quality for at least the last 24 years. It can honestly be said that if you find a part in one of their kits that does not fit, it is the builder who is at fault in a previous building step.

That they may be moving to ARF's only makes sense. If MK wishes to survive as a company, they have to produce what the market demands.

RE: Mk Synergy 63 Kit

Hi John,
I agree, but a well engineered laser-cut kit can be as good or better than original MK kits (I have a pattern kit that is mostly laser-cut and it is quite impressive - of course it still came from Japan). The die-cutting in MK kits has always been excellent, because they don't over-use the dies and produce 'die-smashing'. The hand sawn parts are exquisite. I hope MK continues to produce kits. As an aside, all of the Oxai pre-built pattern ships start out as laser-cut kits. Oxai just refuses to sell them in kit form [&o].

RE: Mk Synergy 63 Kit

Well engineered and executed is the key to any kit whether it is laser cut or hand cut with an X-Acto blade. A laser simply makes the process more consistent. Yes, a laser cut kit "can" be as good as an MK die/saw cut kit, but I don't see how they can be any better. How much better can a perfect fit be?

A friend of mine gave me an almost totalled MKSynergy. Look at the pics to see how bad she was when Igot her. Since there's no available glass on the market, Idecided to mount the engine in a canted position and also because I have very bad experiences with inverted engines. I've read here thatthe recommended.63 is underpowered but I'll use a West .50 since it's the only one I have in my spares box. I'll post some updates soon as I progress.

I am so glad to see there is still a lot of interest in the MK Synergy.
Here are some photos of mine, she is now 4 years old & is as good as the day of the maiden.
YS 63 is a perfect set up for pattern, big round loops are beautiful to fly.
I have now moved up to 110 size (MK Sky Star) Very little difference in performance.
Sky Star presents itself better in the air due to larger size.
Enjoy this plane, I still do!
