Bill, Here are my old Abbra (probably 2,000 flights) and my Gaudious. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1959165

billdor 01-18-2014 04:16 PM

Hi Vince:

Looks good. How do you like the counter props? My Abbra probably has more than the 500 flights on it as I am the second owner of it. It originally had a ZDZ 40 gasser in it and since then it has had 3 different electric setups. I thought I would never get another airplane to fly as good as this but the Gaudius has exceeded my expectations. I will still use the Abbra as my backup.

Hi Bill,

For sure fly better than the pilot. Very nice constant speed. I also still have one Abbra. In the last 12 years I got 4 Abbras. The first one was powered by an OS 160. In 2005 I got one electric using hacker C50. This one it was sold and still flying. At the same time I got two more Abbras powered by YS 160. I converted one to electric and sold it last year that also still flying. The other one that I have is going to be converted to electric using hacker C50. I have the chance to built for a friend one Abbra with ZDZ 40. I flew it few times but I liked more the glow powered that was less than 10 lb. The gas version was around 11 lb. Here a picture of the Abbra with OS 160 landing. It is a shame that JM is not building more planes. I hope that he changes his mind.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1959432

billdor 01-19-2014 12:40 PM

According to Wolfgang at f3a lorenz, JM sold all of his molds so the only hope we have is that whoever bought them will begin producing these great airplanes again with the same degree of quality. I was told that I got the last production Gaudius. We found the ZDZ to be too much for the Abbra airframe, it would not have lasted long, but it was a good idea at the time.

Did you design the canalizer for the Abbra? How did it work out?

Bill

vbortone 01-21-2014 03:09 PM

Hi Bill,

No I didn't design the canalizer. I got it from CA. I think I still have one. It reduces around half the mixing since makes the rudder more sensitive. When you got the Gadious? I got my second one August 2012.

In regard the Abbra with ZDZ. The plane was almost destroy by vibration and flutter. I convinced my friend to order a Hyde mount. We did and the change was incredible. I saw the plane flying like 1/2 dozen times. My friend decided to sell it and I never saw it again. I was able to fly all Abbras with electric, glow (2C and 4C) and gas. Performance between electric and glow was not much (YS160). The gasoline was having problems in the vertical square 8 that we flew in that time. It was more than 1 lb more that is huge difference too. Great experience flying the Abbra in the last 12 years.

billdor 01-21-2014 05:29 PM

Hi Vince:

I got the new Gaudius last fall from f3a lorenz in Germany it is my second one, the ground came up and hit the first one on the bottom of an 8 sided outside loop.
The ZDZ was in the Abbra before I bought it, we removed it in favor of a Turnigy electric setup because of the vibration. Then when I bought it I put a Scorpion motor in it for a while and then a couple of years ago I finally put the Pletty Advance in it. That is one awsome motor.
If you still have the canalizer and would like to sell it I might be interested in buying it from you. You can PM me at [email protected].

Hello

Friend Yves did maiden flight last week with a new Passion I built for him (I modified a one piece wing fuse in two pieces wing)

Fuse, wings and stab are made with light balsa 2 mm. Fuse is recovered with glass cloth 48g/m2 and painted. Wings and stab are recovered with Oracover or similar plastic film.
Engine is gas RCGF 32.

flywilly 01-22-2014 11:45 AM

Hi papaone,
really nice job! Was the Passion built from a kit or your plans? I prefer one piece wings and wood construction; so if you could direct me to the kit manufacturer or possibly provide the plans (at my expense, of course) I would be very appreciative.
Thanks,
Will

Ryan Smith 01-22-2014 10:59 PM

Will,

The Passion is Claude's own design. He has sent me plans for it a while back. The website www.f3a.fr has some extensive build threads on the airplane that Claude has done. The entire website is in French, so if you don't speak it or at least recognize it, it may be a problem, but enough button clicking will get you there.

Beautiful finish on the airplane, Claude! I love the color selection!

flywilly 01-23-2014 03:56 PM

Hi Ryan,
Thanks for the information and the link. Hopefully, Claude can provide me with a set of plans. If not, would it be possible to get a copy from you?
Regards,
Will

It is an Aerocompet Arixtra, hopefully powered by either neu 9s or hacker C50 11xl 8-9s. Only thing I'm going to do differently vs. Standard kit is Split rudder and some fins here and there cause they look cool, and why not.

Now that is a different scheme, I'l bet you are a seattle seahawk fan. LOOKS GOOD

My Griffin, after losing the white one to wing failure and X-treme replacing everyone's wings or planes that crashed due to wing failure. I *love* this yellow scheme and now have more than 6x as many flights on this one than the white one. I think the wing problem is fixed :-)
