RE: Abbra 2m pattern arf

Got to see the Abbra w/ ZDZ as I pictured above again this weekend. This time w/ a Biela 3 blade prop, a very powerful constant speed setup. Unfortunatly an aileron link loosened and buzzed the aileron. That will wake you up. The plane survived and for me shows the strength of fabrication.

Later the firewall separated...so he put it up.

Skoerpa Props.... hmm.....a new item?

The Hp #'s mean nothing what we need to know is what prop at what RPM, the weight looks good if it's got any power could be a winner, but time will tell.

HELP!
I've just received my Abbra kit from the German agent, and while I'm hugely impressed with the quality,I'm really struggling with the manual,as it's in German. The agent's English ain't too good, and my German is limited to "Bitte", and"Danke Schoen".
Does anyone have an English manual?
----I've emailed Mr. Skorepa but I guess he has'nt had time to reply.
Thanks in hope and anticipation.

Are you planning electric or glow? If you are planning on weighing the components I would be really interested as you what you come up with. Pictures too!

Hope you find english instructions, there are bound to be some somewhere...

Mr. Skorepa has now been in touch, and has offered to help with the instructions, thankfully.
He explained that all the ones he has sold have been custom made.
Mine is the base kit, and there's quite a lot to do....Firewall, nose ring, removable horizontal plate to separate the main fus. space from the belly pan, wing securing ,elevator /rudder/aileron horns, and their mountings, etc etc.
And the materials for these I'm having to select/supply/make myself.
Not that I mind much---I normally own-design/scratch build (lower-tech) F3A models for myself and a few chums.
I'm planning to use a pumped OS 160.

Component weights:

Fus(bare exc. rud. mount plate)----23.25 oz
R. wing--------------------------------14oz
L. wing--------------------------------14oz
R stab/el------------------------------2.75oz
L stab/el------------------------------2.750z
Rud.----------------------------------2.625oz
Belly pan(huge) --------------------5.875oz
U/C-----------------------------------3.875oz
C/Fwing&tail tubes------------------2.5oz
Spinner cone+backplate-----------1.875oz

(All of superb quality and workmanship)

Sorry---can't do pictures---I'm the World's worst photographer
and don't have a camera.

When I got it on Wednesday this week, and realised that it was a lot more basic than the ones described in this thread,
I queried it with Lorenz. Basically he said that "all kits already sold out"

Hi
New name of Abbra is El Tiburon (In Lorenz).
Delivery times Abbra is about 8 weeks, immediately if in stock.
Last kit was received last week by Lorenz. I think this kit was for a spanish customer (Madrid). See pics assembled kit, fuselage and a pic with anothers colors . You could choose the design and associate differents colour in this design.

Greg,
As I said earlier;
"Mr.

Not that I mind much---I normally own-design/scratch build (lower-tech) F3A models for myself and a few chums. "
So I have to supply the materials for quite a few important parts, and make/fit them.
The only one that worries me a bit is the firewall--it would have been easier if at least an oversized one had been present. The German importer that I got mine from said that there isn't even a drawing at the moment.
Having said all that though, Mr. Skorepa told me that Jaroslav Mach (the maker in the Czech Republic) can do everything from base kit to take-it-out-and fly.
I guess that you get what you pay for, as usual.
But what you do get is absolutely superb, and if I'd been more careful in checking out what was involved
I'm sure I could have avoided some of my difficulties.

Hi Gregg
Good news.
I know by Lorenz who is dealer for Europe that delivery times for kit from Jaroslav Mach is longuer than normaly. Because one of plasturgist was ill and he is Jaroslav Himself who does the kit. THere is no problem with Jaroslav Mach companie.
I had two kit from him Rhapsody and Cocaine. Very great kits and very goog flights.
You'll be very very happy when you'll receive your plane.
When I open the case I was like a young boy in front of Christmas gift.
Regards

Hello Mr Mach.
Thank you very much for your offer.
I think I have everything understood now , but I'll certainly ask if I have Any queries.
I'm just a little concerned that I'll have to try so hard with what I have to do, to do justice to your excellent craftsmanship.

Hi Mister Mach.
I'm very happy to read you. I have a Rhapsody and a Cocaine equiped with motor Yamada YS160 Dingo.
I live in France and I bought them to Wolfgang Lorenz.
I'll do french championship 2006 with Rhapsody because a friend wants to buy ma Cocaine
after he tested it. He tells me it's the better plane he ever pilots.
Congratulation for your excellent manufacturing of theses kit.
Have you some others projets of F3A planes after ABBRA ?

I'm building my Abbra I received in february. Otherwise the costruction so far has been fairly straigth forward but I run into a problem with the brown glass/herex/glass plate that is supposed to separate the pipe tunnel from the electronics. How have You guys mounted the plate? I quess it should be easily removable at the field. Any pictures showing the plate and what is holding it in place would be welcome.

f3a05 04-10-2006 10:51 AM

RE: Abbra 2m pattern arf

Hi there Kimmo,
My kit didn't have the glass/herex plate supplied with it.
I made a full-length 1.5 mm balsa/glass/epoxy separator plate, fixed to the fus.sides on 3mmsquare balsa side rails.
I incorporated two kevlar-hinged hatches, to give access to the radio, tank, and wing fixing.
I don't have the computer skills to post pictures on here, but Herr Lorenz (email [email protected]) should have the pictures I sent to him.
Hope this helps.

Kimmo Kaukoranta 04-11-2006 02:08 AM

RE: Abbra 2m pattern arf

Fixing the plate permanently and making some hatches would be one option. However making the whole plate removable would allow easier access if I need to change something later (like moving the battery to alter CG). Hmm...

Dick, you have more experience with these engines than most! I have an inverted mounted Evo 26 in my L'Essence and love the engine, but cannot hand start it. It usually floods. Any suggestions? It doesn't hand start well upright either and always needs to "clear" the pipe before it settles down. After that it is a sweetheart and idles very low reliably. Pipe is set for 7200 rpm with 17x12 APC.
