Can anyone tell me the incidence on the horizontal stab on the V-2...I'm assuming it's 0 degrees is that correct??

Thanks Allot...

Chuck

0 degrees on the stab and start at 1/2 degree on the wing.

RE: Black Magic v2 builder's thread! *Updated*

Chuck I was running about a 1/4 degree positive on the stabs and about 3/4 degree on the wings.... the stabs will be about a turn positive from zero on the adjusters.

Thanks Ya'll...

I just feel like I might have screwed the settings up when I removed the stabs to carry it in my car so I wanted to re-check...I didn't mess with the wing adjusters so I'm hoping they will be OK... ;)

Have Fun...

Chuck

P.S. Oh yeah Dave your right, the Black Magic isn't SPA or BPA legal...But it does have a tuned pipe!! :D

close enough.

As long as it's YS powered with a tuned pipe it should be OK....right???????????

Yeah but if it had retracts too.... [8D]

This is the Coolest Black Magic ever....I know there are some really awesome planes which you guys have built...But sorry...This one is the coolest... ;)

RIP prototype... [:o]

Hi Chuck:
I'm in the process of painting my BM. The wings are painted and I am starting on the fuse. But, I believe you've copied my paint scheme, colors and all (hehe). But that's ok, I forgive you.
You're right it does look cool with retracted wheels.
I have my own homemade CF composite gear on mine.

Yoiur plane looks great.

Hiya Orlando!! Great job on your plane!! Congratulations!!

Actually that plane in the picture isn't mine...It was apparently Mike Hester's prototype...He had retracts on it which I think is just the kewelist thing and it looks soooo awesome...If I'm not mistaken that plane was later passed on to Dean Funk...But alias she is no longer with us...RIP..

I actually got Mikes ole' faithful V-2 from Dean (the blue one)...Ole' Blue I think it is?? I also got a V-3 partially assembled kit too...So I'm not a bonified Black Magic builder like the rest of you guys (I cheated)...I felt it was better to buy a partially assembled straight airplane than me spend all that time building a banana shaped one... ;)

I am looking forward to finishing the V-3 one of these days after I get my "feet wet" with Ole' Blue...

that pic is when I was owner of the proto, ( me flying) it had a YS 140 DZ, I loved doing low gear up passes, that was taken during our districts way back.

sad thing was it got mid aired at the very next meet.

I loved that plane and I always wanted to do a retract version of the 3 or what's next :)

"I loved that plane and I always wanted to do a retract version of the 3 or what's next "

That would be the Black Magic VF4? [&:]

Cheers
Jason.

I have a defiant mk II kit that would make an awesome retract plane too.

Hey Orlando,

When are going to see some pictures of your Black Magic. Oh yes what engine setup are you using?

Dean:

I have a v2 that I am finishing up and I have a V3 that is next. I talked with Mike at the Crowley LA. contest a few years ago about building the V3 with retracts. Can you tell me which retracts the prototype used? Also, where were the retracts located (i.e. how far out from the root and how far back from the leading edge).?
Thanks,
Ed

I believe the stems may be too long. You may have to go cut he stems down and insert CF tubing for the added stiffness. May not work however due to the length.
Just my $.02 worth.

And Larrty, I'm trying download pictures of my BM.

Gary/Orlando:

Thanks for the input. We have a few guys flying with them in the TX area (off of grass) and they seem to do well. I have flown with them before and have had relatively few problems. I change the struts out to a stiffer strut and they do OK. Just curious about the possiblity. I really like the way they look in the air and am willing to endure the learning curve/problems. If I do install them, I will also build the fuse to handle the fixed gear so that if it doesn't work, I can always fall back to the fixed gear. A friend of mine (fellow pattern pilot) and I had discussed putting the retracts in the fuse (similar to an F-104 of F-16) and not in the wing. I may take a lookt at this approach. I am just exploring the possibility. The picture of Dean's ill fated V2 with retracts and my maiden flights with an old refurbished Tiporare a few weeks ago got my "retract" juices flowing.

RE: Black Magic v2 builder's thread! *Updated*

Hi Ed,

I am fairly sure they where these:

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXMJJ9&P=0

and I was running 3/16 Titanium struts from central.

The plane was operated off grass as well as paved runways, really not to many problems - it would be good to make a really good padded cradle to support the plane when your starting the motor.

The plane was really cool with retracts and I would do it again in a flash.

good luck, dean

Do you really want retracts that badly?
