RE: Kelly's Brio build and pictures
ok, i see!
but i know one here i norway got one i think that was 18x10 also that was made for Chip Hyde and that one is not as effective as the one i have used, but for next year i will change engine in my Twister to a 160 DZ and i will try diffrent size |
RE: Kelly's Brio build and pictures
Rune,
18x10 props can get a bit confusing, especially if you have access to some that were handed around in the inner circles (i.e. "made for Chip). APC is very good at working with some of the better known pilots in an effort to design props for specific applications. I've seen at least four different designs of the 18x10 that APC has manufactured for Mike Harrison. I think the 18.1x10W is probably the best one yet, though I also know that Mike is now experimenting with some 19" designs. It's possible what you have is one of the intermediate designs. Keith |

Sorry I was late getting back to you....
Our 2 year old twin both have pneumonia if you can believe that! And our 4 year old has a fever! What a mess! I don't have to plane in front of me but looking at the radio it looks like Don put in a little left rudder at 50% and above throttle to correct a bit to much right thrust with a 2 blade prop. It looks like a very small amount of right rudder on the lower throttle setting to make the down line perfectly arrow straight. ORIGINAL: ksutherland What is he doing with the throttle to rudder mix ? kirk |

Thanks I have a set of 15 year old twins so I know what you are going through . We have had every nasty bug you can have and always at the same time. Mine started out both in the 2.5 pound range and have ended up full size and healthy.
Thanks for the trimming info I bet it is great to have access to someone like Don. It is amazing what one or two % will do in the right places. Happy Hollidays Thanks Kirk |

I finally got the canopy painted after 2 failed attempts...
Day 1, first attempt: I sanded off as much of the temp primer and silver spray bomb paint I could. The canopy is very flexible and hard sand. I do the final filler work and prime, wait, sand, get ready to paint the color. I mixed up the first color, orange, and spray the first coat. I leave the room to do something else while the paint flashes so I can paint the second coat. I come back and the paint has lifted in several places, it is a mess. I had no choice but to strip it back to the gel coat!!! Day 2, second attempt: Do all the body filler again, several hours of work. Prime, sand, mix the orange and paint. Now it is getting late. With base coat/clear coat system you need to apply the clear coat withing 24 hours or you have to re-coat the color. I did not think I had time to work on the canopy the next day so I was going to shoot some clear on the orange and just do the next 2 colors in a few days. As I am cleaning the color gun and prepping the clear gun my wife come out and tells me one of the twins is puking again!! Man!, I thought that was all over with by now!!! After going in the house and dealing with that I go back out to shoot the clear and finish up for the night. I mix and shoot the clear, clean up and all is good. Day 3: The next day I pick up the canopy and it feels a little sticky? Hmmmm. Since our day plans had changed it turns out I did have time to paint the rest of the canopy. I break out the fine line tape and start taping for the next color. when I lift the tape to reposition it off comes the clear coat!!! What the!!!!! You can buff the clear in 2 hours normally. Needless to say I am extremely upset! I had no idea why this happen and then it dawned on me.... I walked down to the garage and sure enough I had picked up the can of reducer instead of the can of ACTIVATOR for the clear coat!!!! What a mess!!! After several more hours of attempting to fix this mess I gave up and stripped the canopy down to the gel coat again!!! Day 4: Did all the body filler work again. Day 5: Drove to the paint store, picked up some supplies and a little bit of silver, primed, painted, and clear coated all 3 colors. WOW, that was easy! |
