RE: Pentathlon Build Thread
I thought anhedral stabs were fix to account for the stab being too high. The difference between the location of the root and the location of the tip created a center of pressure to cause the desired flight characteristics. If you're putting an anhedral stab in the same place as a flat stab, then your center of pressure is too low versus where it should be.

RE: Pentathlon Build Thread
THAT is only part of the equation.
And no they are not the same place, the center of pressure was very very close. look closely at the root location on the pic vs straight in another one. it took some unique engineering to figure that one out, but the end difference was about 1/4"....if that was all there was to it, you could just drop the stab and away you go! Not like there's not a ton of room for it. -M |
RE: Pentathlon Build Thread
If a plane crashed in the woods, would it have anhedral or straight stabs?
hmm.. Chuck |
RE: Pentathlon Build Thread
They would have dihedral Chuck. They'd also be swept.

RE: Pentathlon Build Thread
hahaha, the possibilities are endless.
I am hopefully going to figure out the cooling setup this evening, may have to get some high dollar beer to figure it out but we shall see. Chuck |
RE: Pentathlon Build Thread
I was one of the lucky ones that got some time on the Pentathalon last weekend and I was very impressed. The airplane tracks very well upright and inverted, and of course, has plenty of rudder authority. One of the strongest points of the airplane during my 3 plus minutes of time was how crisp all of the rolls stopped. I was snaping and rolling without out an over-roll right off of the bat. I would have liked to have had the time to go through the entire pattern, but the intial impression was very good. If you look at the results from Temple, you will see that Mark flew it to second place in his first Master's contest. Way to go Mark!

OK, so the UPS fairy showed up with some neat little gifts for me to outfit the plane a bit more tonight. Need to do a litle work on the spinner back plate but all else went well.
Gettin close.. very very close. Enjoy. BTW, the wheel pants will be painted a diferent color, just have not decided which on yet... |
RE: Pentathlon Build Thread
OK, so i got the reciever mounted, the flight pack mounted, the regulator mounted, set up all the control throws, attached the ducting to force air out the belly and then..
you know i had too.. attached the wings and weighed her. Right now, with no battery mount system or batts, she weighs... with spinner (truturn nonlightened back plate) and 20X15 prop... drum roll... rat tat tat rat tat tat tat. 7 lbs 10 oz. (3463 grams i believe) wahoo. |
