How long fligth times do you have? On what battery? Is the Hacker A50 -16s a good choice on 6S, was thinking of 6S 4350FP and 16*10 prop...
I use an AXI 4130/16 so I can't comment on the Hacker, with the 4350FP 6S on a 16x10 APC I can get 9mins of all out holigan flying or 12mins of straight aerobatics.

jijohans, I have both the Axi 4130/16 and the Hacker A50-16s. You may be interested in the numbers I get!
Axi 4130/16, TPX 6s 5000mah pack, CC85hv, and 16/10apc or 17/8apc prop, draws 1150 watts 56amps.
Hacker A50-16s, TPX 6s 5000mah Pack, CC85hv, and 16/10apc or 17/8apc prop, draws 1040 watts 50amps.
For me apc16/10 or apc17/8 both draw about the same.

My Angel 50s weighs 6lbs 10oz. On windy days 1040 watts is not enough for me!

WOW . . mine is at 1100W and weighs 5lbs 8oz with 3700mAh 5S pack . . wing loading feels great at this weight.

How do you find it at that weight?

JB, 5lbs 8oz! 18oz less than mine. Well my batt weighs 9oz more than yours, 2.5oz for bec & batt, 1.5oz lead in the tail for balance. Thats 13oz, I do not know where I picked up the other 5 oz. As for wing load, it flys great in wind and still slows fine for landing. I do find the gear a little soft.

Big difference between 172amd and my set up, I am only pulling 45amps, weight is 5lb 4onz, with unlimmited vertical and very good pull out from the prop hang.

Don't know how you managed to need weight in the tail, and at that weight its no wonder you find the gear soft. ;) What is the weight of your batteries?

I didn't do anything special to keep the weight down. I also run a seperate flight pack through a regulator.

Maybe you misread the scales . . or the scales are past their used by date ?? :-)

PS. Having said that . . I was thinking that the landing gear was actually a little too stiff (although not a problem). Maybe yours IS really heavy? and mine doesn't come close to needing any extra balance weight . . I could get if to balance fine shifting the pack with the room available

JB my Angel s50 assembly manual states Weight RTF less battery 77.4oz Add my 26oz pack = 103.4oz Mine weighs 106oz I have no clue how yours and BaldEagle's have come out so light. A fellow club member of mine also Has an Angels50, he says his weighs 102.4oz

Hmmm :eek: . . . interesting. Just went and weighed mine again, and it's 2560gms with battery (that's 90.1 oz.) . . Battery weighs 470gms (that's 16.5 oz.), so I guess my airframe without battery is 73.6 oz. I must have got a light one :)

But we would have to individually compare ESC / Motor / Servos / Rx, etc to get a true indication of where the weights is. Also, I didn't add the full sticker kit, and I changed out the pull/pull cable for lighter cable (I don't use cable that heavy on my 2M Pattern planes ;))

Either way . . I am VERY happy with the flight characteristics at this weight. Flies very scale 2M Pattern plane speed with ample power . . which is what I was hoping for. Downlines are also very slow . . I was very surprised. Floats in on landings, even when calm.

Beig a bit of a nutter, I've built and flown a home-spun glow conversion with the OS91FX. 3650g AUW inc 16oz fuel. 26oz/sqft loading. Further info and pics @ GBRCAA forum. Regards, RM

I am using the DS 821's that come with the Spektrum DX7 they are Digital and seem to operate fine, no problems so far, I have also put in the Hacker ESC that is reccomended with the plane, using it on a AXI motor, the Haker ESC has a stepping BEC built in and is therefore able to take the higher load occasioned by the Digital servo's, this seems fine for aerobatics and some 3D, Oh yes the BEC is rated for 7amps.

7Amp's??? Thougth the BEC on the Hacker X-70 just were 1,5A....

Thats the ordiary ESC the Pro I think its a X70 ES Pro the BEC is rated for 7amps, thats the beuty of the new switched ESC's that are now on the market, they use a switching regulator rather than a constant regulator, therefore less heat and more efficient.

I've been using the DS-821's that came with my JR 9303, plenty of power. I also use a Dimension Engineering VHVBEC, it is switch selectable between 5 and 6 volts (I run at 6 volts) as well as has a LED to make sure the BEC is operational. It supports up to 14S as well so you won't be chucking it if you go bigger...

If that specification is correct, they are saying that if you have 6 servo's connected they can only draw 0.5amps each, I don't think that is correct some how, I have tested my BEC on the SB Pro and have seen up to 8amps being available from this unit on a progressive load test whilst loading the ESC to 30amps, gradually reducing as the ESC load is increased.

Even with 6 STANDARD servos (and most EP setups would only use 4 or 5) . . if there is a 3A draw, I think there would be serious problems. e.g. stalled servos (more than one [X(]). I think a 3A BEC should be fine unless using higher powered digitals . .

Personally, on 50 size electrics and up, I prefer OPTO style ESC's and use seperate Rx battery (650mAh 2S LiPo typically) with a 5A regulator.

Hahahaha . . you shouldn't use Sail Winch servos [)] . . hey that's SERIOUS current draw. 6 x Servos @ 3A = 18A . . you would need reasonably heavy gauge wire from your battery to the Rx . . e.g. 18A ESC battery connection cable [&o].

We tested the 5kg / 5V digitals I am using in the Angel and they draw 1.6A at close to stall . . actually operation would be measured in mA

Oh . . also . . all 4 servos use 21 - 24 mAh per 8 min flight. We were very surprised by this low current draw. We stand around in amazement watching the charger peak :D Electic power is soooooooo kind to servos [)]

I use Hitec 5955's in my Extra and they can draw up to 5amps each, total usage per flight can be as high as 300mah per 10mins of 3D, I use A123's as a two pack for the Rx and servo supply, through a Kodiak switch made by Fromeco, which can supply 30amps and gives a milliamp draw indication from a built in digital read out after flight, it even has a memory to allow a call back of all the Mah's draw after several flights, and yes the cables are heavy duty as well

As I understand it its the holding power of Digitals that use the extra power when holding on full deflections in outrageous manouvers.

The new JR 8711 can pull up too 8amps each, now that is a potentially serious draw on the batteries, no use using a standard Rx switch with that, most plugs according to the manufactures are only rated for 4amps, it seems that only Spektrum have addressed this issue directly with their new 9000 series Rx's which have a double battery input in heavy gauge wire.

Have you seen the report from Quique Simozini when he crashed his Python, he burnt out the Regulator, after that he did an investigation and found he was drawing over 34amps from the regulator, mind you I must admit my flying is not of that standard, but its nice to know that even the elite get it wrong some times. LOL

I haven't checked the digitals on my pattern plane [X(] However, I just used a setup much the same as most do, so felt pretty safe. Although when looking for this kind of data, I found that MOST manufacturers don't give any current draw info . .

Even the experts can't give the info . . as in the "Futaba radios direct support forum" below :eek:

Dont fret, most of the F3A guys are only using about 60Mah per PO7 scedule, it just shows the difference between 3D and normal flight.

I do sometimes wonder how much power us mear mortals rearly need to do what we think are wild manouvres, I did have a petrol Edge it was the Jamara one just under 2M if I remember correctly, and I used Hitec 625 and 645 in it with no trouble whatsoever, I have now sold it and it is still flying, so have I wasted my hard earned monies on servo's I don't need on my other ships using the Hitec 5955's?

I used the standard cross mounting plate attached to the rear of the motor, but needed to open the holes slightly towards the outside to get the pre installed captive nuts in the bulkhead to line up, that was the only mod needed. The power from this motor is easily the equivialant of the Hacker one supplied in the kit, I wont say better because I don't want to start a war on here. :D

Hi Guys,

I've finished my Angel and did the maiden flight today, very impressive! I've got the standard A50-16S setup with an 16x10 APC, the climb is so good.

One little problem is that the Li-Po's (FP6S3700 & TP6S 5000) rest against the esc and it gets a little warm as there is no airflow over it. Has anyone resited the esc?
