Got mine ready and now just waiting for a sunny day to test fly the plane.
Overall, the kit quality is very good, and very easy to put together. Hopefully the plane will fly as good as it looks. AUW including battery is 5.8 lbs, and the Extreme flight motor fits the original mounting hole pattern perfectly, the only thing I added was four standoffs. The total wattage using 15X8 APC-e was 1140 to 1200W with a freshly charged battery, draws about 66 to 68A, and the RPM was around 7800 to 7900. Here are some pictures of the finished plane. |

I went with EF motor and ESC combo because I want to use the 5S FlightPower EVO 5350 batteries I plan on using on the 2M, and I figure if I can keep the plane light enough, the power from the EF motor ESC combo should develop enough power to pull it. The standoffs came from Orchard Supply Hardware, it costs couple bucks, made from aluminum, which weighs very little, and it is 5/8" in length. Kevin |

Can't wait to see what you think when you fly it. I know that combination flew my 6lb-5oz E-F Extra 300 just fine. My Angel finished out at 6 lbs-0.3 oz using the same motor with a CC 85HV controller and a 910ma lipo w regulator for the Rx. Interested in seeing how the Airboss 80A controller works out. I have one sitting around that if installed in my Angel would bring it down around the weight of yours. Now for the snow to melt and temps to get a little warmer<g>

I am about to start building my Angel S. I have purshased the Hacker motor and ESC as recommended with the model. I have purchased a couple of the following packs

I wanted the larger packes for a longer flight time. Has anyone flown this model with this size pack? |

About to embark on putting my Angel together. Has anyone realigned the servo horns on the Ailerons to give proper right angle geometry or have people just been living with it or using their TX to dial any differential out? Mike |

Well, I had a chance to maiden the plane during lunch today, my impression from the first two flights were very positive. The power from this Extreme Flight motor/ESC combo was more than enough, in fact, on the second flight I found myself using less and less power on the verticals. Once I have the initial trimming done, I will experiment with 15X7 APC-e to see how that works.
I used far less throws on the elevator and aileron than factory recommendation, and I will cut it down even more before next flight. The factory recommended CG was very close, I moved the CG back slightly on the second flight, and the inverted flight was a little better, but the required down elevator still is a tad more than my liking, which I will try to move CG back a little further and see if that will improve more. Knife edge was pretty solid with the recommended 6% mix from rudder to down elevator, but I need more testing to get that finalized. Down line tracking was very straight with a hint of moving to the belly on very long lines, but I had 2% down elevator mixed in with throttle idle, I might either reduce the mix to 1% or taken out altogether. Rudder response was very positive, which make point rolls and slow rolls very easy. One other thing I felt positive was the down line speed, it was slow enough that I keep on reducing the throttle on verticals to match the speed, and the second flight was definitely slower than the first, which presents better in the air. Overall, I am very happy with the result from this first trip, and I will find some more time this week to continue on the trimming. |

Has anyone come up with a cute sexy way of removing the canopy hatch on the Angel S without much cursing swearing and breaking of ones nails? I am thinking of cynoing a thin fabric tab on it just to give me something to grab to lift it. Mike |

I have JR digitals all the way around, but am using a separate Rx battery and Castle 85HV controller. Just wondering if the Airboss ESC will work well enough with the digitals. Concern for voltage drop since I am flying spread spectrum. I do have the Airboss ESC sitting on the side waiting to see how it works for others before I drop it in. I can save additional weight if and when I put the Airboss ESC in. |

Great to know that you are having similar mixes. The only other thing I did significant was to add more right thrust to get the plane track properly. I am using all Futaba digital servos all the way around also, which consist of 3 S9650's on both ailerons and elevator, and one S9451 on rudder. In my case I am using JR servos, 9411SA's on ailerons, 8311's on rudder and elevator. |

I am. Still running a tad below 1100W, and think this power is suitable. I also moved CG some few mm backwards. Downlines are really vertical, and speed is constant. Got surpriced by how well it slows for landing, did expect more speed. I have also reduced throws a lot from the recommended. Have to fly a bit closer to myself than with bigger planes, but remember this is "only" .50-size. Nice bird! |

I have only a half dozen flights so far. It is what I have been looking for all this time. It'll fly in 10 mph winds no problem. I am using the Extreme Flight 4014T-570 motor, Castle 85HV controller, 910ma 2S Rx Lipo pack, a 5S flight pack and a 15X8 APCE prop. JR digital servos all around. What I like is that I am able to use my 5S packs (Duralite FP 5350's) that I use on my 2M ship. I can go out and safely knock off Eight 8-9 minute flights without charging<g>. It does the Masters pattern quite well. It blows away the Vanquish for precision if you have any idea how one of those flys. After all, it is basically a smaller version of an Angels Shadow. My all up weight is 6 lbs-0.3 ozs. Not bad for 710 sq in wing. I can make the plane even lighter if I used the Airboss 80 amp controller instead. I know the stock setup uses a Hacker and 6S flightpack, but I'm not looking to do 3D. I decided to run the same electric motor that I ran on my Extreme Flight Extra 300 at 6lbs - 5ozs on the same prop and 5S flightpacks. From that experience, I had no doubt the same setup would work even better in the Angel. And of course it does<g> |

Wow really sounds like a great practice plane. It's such a nice looking arf to boot.... I was also thinking of maybe installing my satio 91. But your electric option sounds great too, I am building an eletric vf3 - so the 5 cell option is perfect. thanks for the great info.... dean |

But your electric option sounds great too, I am building an eletric vf3 - so the 5 cell option is perfect. thanks for the great info.... dean I'd be very careful about putting a glow engine in this plane, it's designed form the ground up to be electric, from the pre-drilled firewall with blind-buts installed, the lightened engine box to the battery tray area specifically designed to have airflow around the entire flight pack. Though there is no technical reason you can't modify it, I'd think twice about having to bulk up a plane when so many are designed out-of-the-box for glow... Jack |
