RE: Then and now side by side pics
Hi M, I would be surprised if there were a lot of modelers with AutoCAD out there. I learned it at Hughes’ expense and it was $1000 a license for Hughes. It’s more than that for the individual versions. It is very complex and not user friendly but if guys have it, that’s as good as it gets. I got to Hughes in 1963. Howard Hughes stopped showing up in the late 50’s. So, I missed seeing him. His office was being kept as a holy sanctuary. It was strictly off limits. The entire facility has been torn down and replaced by residents and office buildings. I don’t want to bog down this thread. It’s too much fun as it is.

ORIGINAL: MHester I dunno. Mike's 70s pants are gonna be hard to beat!!! And that hair....dude....LOL Ok this is definitely potentially the most comical thread ever on RCU. Dan? You'd be suprised how many of us have Autocad :D I'd love to hear some stories about Hughes as well. -M The pants....... I never owned a pair of jeans or shorts untill the 80's. Just the way things were for me as a kid. The hair and the glasses..... I was stylin.... MIke |

OK, here's mine. The "then" picture was from Model Aviation October 1990 District V column. I attended a Novice only contest in Alabama with my Eagle 2 trainer. That's me in the top of the middle column. I'm flying a little better pattern plane now!

John,
No, it is not Sergio Mendez it is me. Well, you really were able to guess that was me. The plane is called "Bullet". This was a kit made in England. I was very nice flying plane. Engine ST 46. The picture was taken in Venezuela around 1978. Now, you have to guess what town and the field. Now , that everybody knows that was me I am posting two pictures. One with very old biplane that I used in a pattern contest in Valencia, Venezuela. The other one is me with QQ at the Nats. with one of my Abbras. What is the name of the biplane? |

Ok, here are some pics of me... the 1st is of me back in 1976 when I was the 1/8 scale RC Champion in South Africa - the car was an Associated. The next pic is my 1st R/C plane - Graupner Amateur from 1969 or so. My Bridi Kaos in 1985 is the next pic... followed by my Ariel in 1996, Pioriun Python in 1999 at the Nats, Hydeout from 2002 and then my Astral in 2006.

I can see that you must have been a real lady's man with that cool retro look Chris. Wow!!!!!
Derek I really like the Python. That was a really cool looking plane. MIke |
RE: Then and now side by side pics
TN ... I am gonna go there and smack you! Hahahahahaaa ... was taken like over a year ago! I am NOT that old ok. Hahahaahahahahaa ... I learnt one thing, let's all fly as much as we can now. Day will come when we can only handle gliders. We have a 80+ yr old Brit here who prob stayed back after WWII, he loves the hobby so much. He told me about days when servos were rubber powered. Now he can only handle gliders. Let's fly more!

Vince nice memories!!!! I think the town is San Cristobal????
best regards TUNY |
RE: Then and now side by side pics
Hi Tuny,
Yes, you are correct. The biplane picture was taken at the old aeroclub field. The other picture was taken at the Tucape field. This fields are not use anymore and the are flying at the actual aeroclub that is an active small airport. Saludos, Vince |
RE: Then and now side by side pics
Too bad i did'nt show Aleta this Thread before i spent 10.50 at the movies with her. She laughed at all the old pictures, Not to mention some of the comments she made. Dang i would still have the 10.50 in my pocket.
Keep the pictures coming. To bad i haven't been in this hobby long enough to take some old time pictures. All though in retrospect maybe it's a good thing Dennis |
