I think the best part was renewing old friendships and seeing friendships renewed- and making new friends. There were some lighter moments as well- AC's "CLPR landing" (almost). Cameron's first flight (hey where did those flags come from). It was great. The multiplayer seems like a standard internet connection- just the click of a button and you are there. Hope you are able to connect.

Volkert,
For pattern the box is defined as 60 degrees either side of center (which is already available in the Moskow flying site where the competition was held). Why would you need an additional box at 45 degrees either side of center?

Andy P
You can record the flights as they happen (next time I'll record the whole contest), but I don't see a way to upload the recordings to YouTube. Now this would be something worth asking Phoenix to implement. In fact I'll do just that.

regarding the "box", what would really work for me is having parallel to the runway at a certain distance a top and bottom line (horizontal), a center line and a 60 degrees line left and right (all vertical). As an option 45 degrees lines from top to bottom thru the center.

Even with the grid at the moscow site I have really big troubles keeping my line while flying with the simulator. For me, there are too many lines now, it confuses me.

Hope what I write makes any sense!

What we found is that if you fly at about 120 meters out, and make the bottoms of maneuvers such that you can see the buildings and signs along the fence, it works pretty well. The center is the clearing in the clouds at this distance, at the tops of maneuvers. The left landmark is the exhaust stacks, the near-center landmark on the left is the blue building, the near center landmark on the right is the gray building, and the red and white banners and edge of clouds are the guide marks on the right side of the box. The simulator forces you to look at these box segments, not unlike what is done when flying for real. If you fly out further the plane is hard to see and if you fly in much closer it gets really high on center and is hard to judge.

Our next competition is scheduled for 3 PM on Saturday, 27 August. We'll have an informal judging/practicing session/contest at 3 PM on 20 August as well, and if there is enough interest we can do a contest at that time as well- its just that several will be at WRAMs show. If interested in either of these send me a note at [email protected] (its easier to use a separate computer than the one I'm sim'ing on).

See you,

Don

Andy,
I have been also trying to find the session. I don't think it's there. I have always been able to see and join sessions in the past.
