Default Zagi on buddy box

I flew a zagi on a buddy box a couple of years ago. I believe I used my old Futaba 6XA as the master and a $25 4-channel Futaba transmitter/buddy box; however, I just tried this with my friend's zagi and newer 6XA with the same old buddy box, but the mixing didn't seem to work. What's different now, than when I did it before?

Did you mix the elevons in the radio, or have an on board mixer on the Zagi? If you had an on board mixer I could see the buddy box working. To the best of my knowledge only the 8U Super(?) will allow a 4 channel buddy box to be used with mixing in the master radio...

I am unsure about higher model Futaba radios, 9C or 9Z, having this ability (one would hope they do) and know nothing about any other manufacturers radios...

I used the mixing in the radio.

I did replace my 6XA with an 8. I had all three radios for awhile. Maybe I did use the 8, but at that time I thought it would have been the 6XA that I used. Did something change in the 6XA? Did the 6XA ever have this capability? If not, I must have used the 8.

Yes, I do wonder if the 9's can pass through the mixing? I was thinking of upgrading my transmitter possibly.
