Default Futaba´s 9451 or 9351 servos for 3D?

Hi!

What servo´s should I get for my Harrier 3D? I´m planning to get Futaba´s 9451, 9351, or Hitec 5945. How about Hitec 5955 TG? Do I need programmer for Hitec servos? Futaba servos don´t use programmer, right? Can these servos be used in Composite ARF´s Extra 2.3 3D plane too? I´m using Futaba´s PCM 149DP PCM RX - read that Hitec digi servo´s don´t like Futaba´s PCM RX´s.....

Many thanks in advance for your help.

BR, Peter

The 9351 is a 6 volt servo while the 9451 is either 4.8 or 6. You have more options with the 9451. I would get the 9451. Hitec servos aren't bad. My opinion Futaba servos hold up better and are conservatively rated.

I like the 9451's 4 or 5 cell capability with only a small torque penalty (a necessary compromise). It has a shorter cable for some reason. Seems to have a coarser pitch on the output gear than some other Futaba servos, but I haven't noticed any downside to this yet.

Curious where you found this as I am considering a setup with the Futaba PCM and Hitec digitals

It the latest in a long running thing with Hitec servos...take it from me I have just spent $ 500 to find out they wont work on a Y ( the new 5945s) without using a matchbox or buffered Y.

The old ones worked fine as do Futabas and JRs.

Hitec seems to have their head stuck up their you know where when it comes to issues like this!!!

OK...but does that mean that Hitec Digitals won't work with a Futaba PCM RX??

I don't use Y's so that won't affect me......

any insight into this information

The V1.03 definately work and it would seem that the V1.04 are more sensitive to the signal voltage with a Futaba Pcm reciever and they work but not in pairs.
I have been trying to find out exactly from Hitec but they dont have a real answer.
Although I have used them for the past 3 years with no problems this latest twist makes me think that quality control is not their strong point and you would be better off buying the Futabas or JRs even tho they are a little more expensive and not programmable.

I had a look at Futabas web page and they spec the 9351 for 4.8v and 6v.

Good news! Apparently all of Futaba's digital servos are now dual rated for 4.8 v or 6.0v.

Futaba servos have alway's been able to run on 6V. Futaba just didn't want users running servos on unregulated 5 cell packs so they said 4.8V only.

You don't need 200oz servos for a Harrier 3D. If you want a digital a low torque high speed servo would be plenty. A S9202 would be plenty for that plane.

Error, error, error. I spoke too soon; didn't look close enough. Only a couple more of the digitals have dual ratings compared to specs shown at Tower.
