Futaba 12FG Press Release Announcement
***Futaba 12FG 2.4GHz FASST™ Radio System***
Taking twelve-channel control to a new level!
Futaba’s new 12FG radio combines the unmatched precision of 2048 resolution with the groundbreaking advantages of Futaba’s proven FASST 2.4GHz system. This is the radio for discerning R/C pilots who insist on state-of-the-art features and functions for the most precise control imaginable. And because it’s from Futaba, you can fly it with confidence knowing that the industry’s finest research and development has gone into it!
The advantages of FASSTTM Futaba 2.4GHz systems:
Constant Channel Shifting
Other 2.4GHz systems hold firm to one or two frequencies, increasing the potential for interference. The frequency of Futaba 2.4GHz FASST systems shift every 2 milliseconds, so there are no signal conflicts or interruptions — and no need for a frequency pin!
Pre-VisionTM Packet Screening Technology
2.4GHz FASST scans incoming data and applies sophisticated error correction techniques — resulting in a system that gives you a solid, impenetrable connection with your model.
Dual Antenna Diversity (DAD)
Futaba 2.4GHz FASST systems seamlessly select the best reception between two receiver antennas, so there’s no loss of signal.
100x Faster Antenna Switching
If the receiver notices a problem with the data coming into one antenna, it rapidly switches to the other - looking for the sharpest signal.
*Comparing the R606FS receiver to the AR6000 receiver.
Custom-Developed IC Chips
Futaba uses custom IC chips that have been designed specifically for radio-control — ensuring quality, reliability, and safety. This is why Futaba FASST systems are faster and more reliable than the competition.
14-channel “all-in-one” receiver
With the R6014FS receiver you will be able to take advantage of all twelve channels on their 12FG. The R6014FS receiver, included with the 12FG is the first spread spectrum receiver to offer more than eight channels. Full-range systems from other manufacturers include a bigger, two-piece receiver, and you must purchase a smaller park flyer receiver separately.
Over 2x Less Minimum Latency
Latency is the elapsed time between your movement of the transmitter controls and servo response. In Futaba 2.4GHz FASST systems, that response can happen over twice as fast — so you feel less like you’re “out in front” leading your model, and more like you’re inside driving or flying it.
*When comparing the 6EX FASST system to the DX7.
Easy Link TM
Futaba 2.4GHz FASST systems leave the factory already linked. Once linked the receiver will recognize and respond ONLY to that transmitter. Binding more receivers is not a problem — the linking process is simple...just push a button on the receiver.
Features:
Priced lower than other 12-channel radios!
R6014FS Receiver
Quad-Bearing Gimbals
SD Card Data Storage & Transfer (SD card sold separately)
Pre-Programmed Mixes
Finely Tuned Setting Adjustments
Variable Dual Rates (VDR)
Servo Grouping
255 x 196 LCD Screen with Adjustable Contrast
7.2V 1700mAh NiMH transmitter battery – for longer life

Mongo, saw your interest in the General/France switch in the other thread. On the 6EX it is internal, ie you can't get to it unless you open the back, on their car system which has been out for a while, it is like the modules here. A third possibility is that the switch is done in software.

Hmmmm...VDR, G3 2048 resolution, 12 true channels (RX too), 2.4Ghz built in, 8 flight conditions, 10 programable mixes, 1700ma Nimh battery, 30 module memory, all backed by a large corporation with long reputation. It mentions the 12 channel receiver is included. The first feature mentioned on their website for the 12FG is not one of the above but "priced lower than other 12 channel radios!", (note the exclamation) so I am hoping that means the 12z too (not too many competitors there). If it is less than $1,000 watch out but I won't keep my hopes up just yet. I wonder how much the R-6014FS rx's are individually (please don't say $350). Where is the waiting list? Clarify early summer (stock status). May isn't soon enough. My bonus will be here next Friday...haha. If I had to guess I would say $900-$1,000 but I could be off $200 easy.

The pricing was not announced as of yet. I suspect the prices will be extremely competive and better than you might imagine. This is exciting stuff that going to change the face of RC as we know it now.

I am curious more about the differences between the features of the 12z and 12MG. For example, is VDR as flexible on the 12MG as it is on the 12z? I will just have to wait and see. This is still more radio than I will probably ever need but I remember thinking the same about my 8U.

What I was hoping for was a 9C in 2.4. This 12 FG will probably sell for more than what I want to spend. Also I don't need 12 channels.
A 9Channel 2.4 for about 600.00$. That would be nice, futaba? anyone!

I new there were more 8U users out there still... :-)
I have to admitt the 12 channel has pique my interest just because I'm planning a Yellow P47 for next years project... Could be just the ticket...

RE: Futaba 12FG Press Release Announcement
Yep.. I know that... :-) But by next year I would have some real time feedback, from users of the system, to base my decision on... ! (And bombs drops, Fuel tanks and canopy movement take up a lot of extra channels LOLL)

True.. if you want to include all the cooler stuff then Yep.. get it! lol.. I'm shamefully considering one myself.. I really like the features of my 9zwcii but having a radio that was easier to program would be nice..
Oh FYI I have a YA Jug and it's about hmm half built. Nice plane.. some compromises with scale but none that are too bad.

BobH,
I have heard it wasn't deadon accurate. I was going to build it as sort of a sudo "M" model Sport Scale fun fly type plane... (If that makes any sense..) :-)

RE: Futaba 12FG Press Release Announcement
I am sure a 9channel 9c replacement in 2.4 ghz is on its way. If Futaba came out with that first, they wouldn't sell as many of the more expensive 12 channel radios.
Be patient, let them get the kinks worked out with the Cheapo 6 channel, and the expensive 12 channel, something in the midrange will come eventually. Probably later this year, or Spring of 2008.
I would love to jump to 2.4, but my 72 Mhz stuff works just fine for now.
I will say that, if JR/Spektrum release a midrange system first, I'll go that way, so hurry up Futaba

RE: Futaba 12FG Press Release Announcement
Futaba has been doing 2.4 gHz in the industrial stuff for years now. That's also one of the reasons I like to fly Futaba, the industrial background. In my job I'm in and out of manufactring plants where they use R/C cranes, most of them are Futaba controlled. This has my curiosity as well, but being a Ham Radio Operator, I think my next radio really may be on 6 meters. But, hmm....

RE: Futaba 12FG Press Release Announcement
Shoot, I went and bought a DX7!!! Oh well I'll just have to wait for next year and see how the 12's work out as well as wait for maybe a midrange system. I've been using Futaba for a long time and I needed an upgrade for my 7uhps. I have an 8u as well. Either way I would still have to upgrade all of my rx's etc to switch to 2.4ghz. I guess I'll just do it piecemeal. My pcm's work great, bu I do like the notion of better latency and no freq probs. I can turn on my transmitter and do some programming right in the pits without worry, I kinda like that.

Still on my 8U here too and it has been very reliable. I will probably buy the module for that too and keep it in the hanger as a backup and to run my old 72Mhz rx's. I resisted the 9C and the later DX craze which wasn't easy. I am just now getting to the point where I am using more features. I want something I can invest in and use for the next 8+ years so I am curious to see the pricing of the 9 and 12 channel systems. I wonder if the price of the 12z will change much on the new 2.4Mhz. It should be an interesting summer and fall. I wonder what they have in store for x-mas

Im waiting for the 9C too. Apparently there are 7Ch Futaba FASST module made for the 9C now. But might as well wait until you get 9 full channels before you buy.

RE: Futaba 12FG Press Release Announcement
I've got two 8U's myself. I held off on getting the 9C because there just isn't that many more features on it than the 8U. Just last fall, I packed both of them up along with all my receivers and had Futaba go through them. They're all good as new now. I guess I'll just continue to use them till something happens to them...But I have spent my last $$ on them....Looking forward to the FASST system somewhere down the road........
