Default Bumping Flywheel To Stop Engine Debate

I was just wondering out of all the ways to stop an engine I agree that pushing in the air filter is the worst. There are of course safe ways such as pinching the fuel line but I rather burn off all the fuel out of the lines if there's little left. Does anyone agree with bumping the flywheel for instance with their shoes to stop the engine? In my mind this puts more strain on the engine internals such as the con-rod and make them more susceptible to wear and damage. What do you guys here think about this?

I cover the exhaust tip. No strain, just a slow stall. No leaning or flooding it, both of which are bad. Very bad. [:'(]

but it back the fuel up causing unburned fuel residue in the pipe and in the manifold. If you have a savage. Get the saftey engine stop it's on the hpi website.

Taping the fly wheel is the best way to stop the engine. I think the NTC3 manual even says to do this and it says not to cover the exhaust tip.

There was a big discussion about this before and stopping by flywheel was said to be the best.

doesn;t plugging the exhaust cause a whole bunch of fuel to be thrown into ur engine, making it hard to start next time round?

I pinch the line, and the empty out the fuel tank, and attach the glow warmer again and start it up, and it just runs for a couple of seconds burning up whats left

Pinching the line is supposed to be the worst of the three choices since it leans the engine out.

leans it out? for about 0.5 of a second... bumping the flywheel with ur shoe or something could be dangerous, and it sounds like it would put a lot of stress on things... piston and conrod moving very quickly... then coming to an abrupt halt..

Personally I like the flooding choice, easiest of the three, it takes like a second with your finger over the exhaust.

me too, what would removing the pressure line( connects to the pipe) do if the engine was on?

Should prevent the engine from pulling fuel from the tank but I'd hate to try it with a hot pipe and engine

I had one bad experience a while ago, when the first rs4 3 rtrs came out. I didn't read the how to turn the car off part of the manual( who reads the manual) So I was driving then my batteries died. Luckly it stopped in the grass. I didnt know how to turn off the car, so it stayed at WOT for about 2 minutes. It started smelling funny, purple head turned white, and I bet it was over 400 degrees. It cooled down, enough to touch. I took it apart and the piston and sleeve was brown with patches all over it.

Lesson learned: Be cool and dont read the manual.

dude that looks trashed, i bought a fail safe a long time ago, i accidentally started the car on the starter box without plugging the reciever pack in and the car ran for a about 8 secoonds at WOT, i tried plugging the reciever pack in but i could get it in right so i just pushed the throttle back down with my finger and plugged it back in, i dont think any damgae could of been done for only 8 seconds but ill never know until i take the head off wich i really dont feel like doin

covering the exhaust stinger floods the engine putting exess strain on it even more than bumping the flywheel. Its like moving ur hand through water then suddenly its turns to molasses. that would put a lot of strain. The fuel line isnt the worst as it jus leans it out for a short time...just make sure its a idle or the rpms are sumwhat low when u do it. The air filter way which ive hear about floods the engine too so thats like the stinger concept basically. The flywheel(most likely the best way) and the fuel line thing are the two ways that wont flood the engine which makes em better....really.

The HPI RS4 3 EVO manual says that only under emergency conditions should you pinch the fuel line. They say the best way is to plug the exhast with a rag.

Over the weekend I did some servo trim adjustments on my cars in preparation for this weekends racing. I tried the flywheel method, it really only took a touch to stop the engine, I was surprised.
