Default How much weight "makes a difference"?

Just wondering how much weight in an on road RC car (roughly 1.5kg) would make a difference in balance?
ie, how much unsprung weight to be taken off before it's noticable?
How much weight added/taken away from front or rear before it makes a difference?
I guess this is more so for handling, but acceleration too

Depends on the car type. If it is a pure racer anything more than 25-30 grams makes difference while trying to run fast laps. If a basher then i think 60-70 grams and above makes difference...but that's in theory...it's not only the weight but the place and the height of it compared to the center of gravity position. Also the suspenssion setup, the spring rate and the mounting positions of the shocks are some of the variables you have to know first if you want a complete answer.

It all adds up. The more you lighten, the faster your top spped and acceleration will be.

The true answer is related to power:weight. If you shed enough weight to bring your specs below the competition, that's where the true difference is made.

Handling is affected by weight and balance MUCH more than speed and acceleration!

Some people racing 1/8th add weights to their battery tray to lower the center of gravity. But thats to keep the cars weight over 2.5kg rather than anything. If you were more specific about what you are planning then we would probably be able to help more.

most people drill the hell out of their cars to make them super light, then add weights to match race requirements, and puit them in a place where handling will be better.
