Unfortunately, I have to agree. If the wheels were mechanically coupled to the power plant, and the power plant were an internal combustion device, I would be more impressed.
If you wanted to go impulse (thrust) powered method, I would have been a bit more forgiving if it were a turbine that was mechanically coupled to the drivetrain and wheels even though the thrust from the turbine also added to the propulsion of the vehicle.

Not ragging on you, I too am a bit of a cynic too.

But I do concede that in full sized top speed records, impulse (thrust) powered cars without mechanically coupled cars have set records. It only makes sense to do the same for an RC, no friction from those additionally moving parts,
