Just purchased a new Ax10 RTC from our LHS and have had nothing but problems with it from the get go.
Most of the issues were small and easily fixed. Driveshaft kept coming off but after some thread lock being applied seems okay now. I've also noticed alot of posts stating that the motor is wired backwards due to it having more speed in reverse than forward, this is how it is designed from Axial. (not a mistake)
Anyway the problem Ihave is trying to set the esc to some sort of factory setting. Ibought the truck for my 13yr old son and he has yet to use it. (3 days old now)
It seems the esc or throttle trim is screwed up. Iget full power and speed in reverse but it's very choppy and hesitant in forward. Iam well aware of the fwd brake and instant reverse setup, it just seems like the esc or throttle can't find a neutral posistion.
I'm fairly new to electric cars/trucks and it seems that for a RTC it has alot of issues. I also understand that the esc is not programmable but there must be a way to set things to a base setting.
My LHS keeps trying to blame my son for messsing with the throttle trim and then blamed my old batteries and charger. So Ibought new batteries and a new charger and still have the same issue.
Any help is greatly appreciated,
Gavin

just fuking return it dude, **** they are leading you on and its getting me to think that this rig was messed up and they sold u it.
Get him the RTRcrawler/racer, i have that one an i cant be more happyer, its really fast for a normal cralwer but if u change the engine to a 55 or a 60T engine then it will become slow.
that is my RTR i changed the body and put a 60t engine in it with a 14tooth and a 87 spar

it should have come with an instruction manual,if so just reset the radio to factory trims and reset the speed control. all modern speed controls have a set button.

Thanks,
The esc does not have a reset or programmabliity of any kind as far as I can tell.
I did however find out that when I switch the throttle and steering on the rx I can drive the car fine in forward and reverse with the steering wheel, but the trigger is hesitant to actually steer the truck.
If this makes any sense to anyone could it be the tx or rx is screwed? Still seems like a throttle trim issue to me but I'm baffled.
My LHS wants me to return it and leave it for a day or 2 for them to look at it but that seems like a pain in the ass as it's brand ****ing new.
So again if anyone knows how to set the thorttle control back to factory please let me know.
Thanks,
Gavin

Sounds like a bad RX.
If you had the "stutter" issue with throttle, then switched out steering for throttle at the receiver, yes, it's the receiver. That is a warranty issue with Axial, but if your LHS is worth it's salt. they will replace it right there, free, if they have a compatible one in-shop.
In these bad economic times, having an LHS that supports what it sells is a plus. If they don't, I know it's a hassle, but go through Axial, and find yourself another hobby shop, as that one is interested in only one thing, and it's not your satisfaction.

Well thanks for all the replies,
I think Ihave narrowed it down to a bad tx. When Iflip the throttle control from neutralinto reverse on the transmitter everything works fine. I will be taking it back to the LHS and see what they are willing to do. They seem pretty good about fixing and backing everything they sell. If they are unwilling to help me then Iwill be unwilling to spend any more of my money there.
Thanks again everyone that answered,

Bought one for my son to.
At first I didn't understand the speed control either.
To program it, I found you don't do anything but set the trims to neutral, turn the radio on, then turn the truck on. It sets it's self each time like this.
You will listen for a little chirp. I noticed to get this sometimes, you have to turn thesteeringa little then the speed control activates.
You don't want to mess with the throttle until you hear that chirp though, or you will cause it to calibrate wrong.
End point - Its cheap arse electronics, and all in all, every piece of it should be replaced by name brandequipment ASAP.
The servo is loose and cheap, the speed control is a pain. There ya have it.

No one said anything about it being fair. And now looking back on it I would have went with an RC4WD setup that was twice as much.
But then again, there isn't any RC I have owned that had less than $1000 in them before I sold them or still have em.
Building them up is the point of buying hobby grade RC. If I wanted my money's worth, I would get toy grade junk.
Yeah I said that. Because none of you can really justify spending as much as any of us do in these hobbies. Money is never a place to gripe here.

Once i was in my hobby shop and this guy was like "Holy crap $1400 for this truck" I looked at him and laughed and said dude if ur going to say that just leave or dont say it out loud cuz some poeple get offended by u saying that, then we laughed it off.
So dont think every one out there that wants to bein this hobby has money to spend left and right on hopups or RCS

In all seriousness I'm not trying to discourage anyone to the hobby.
But I have worked in a couple hobby shops as the main RC tech, from cars, planes, boats and trains, not to mention helis.
I have yet to see one single person that staying the hobby of RC cars for over 6 months that didn't buy at least a few after market parts.
I have heard many people tell me that they run with guys that only run completely stock, but honestly I have never met but maybe two people in my entire 23 years of RC that didn't buy more than they needed to run. I am starting to believe that itsmerelyurban legend by now.
But I get what your saying, so don't take it wrong.

Just want to ad my 2 cents worth. It seems the thread got a bit off topic.
My main issues was not with spending money to upgrade ESC's, servos and anything else some say "need" to be replaced. My issue was with the fact that this truck is for my 13yr old son who saved most of the money himself to purchase it. I'm trying to teach him the value of working for your money and saving for what you want.
How is telling him that the $300 truck he saved so hard for is a piece of crap and that everyone says you should replace everything? Explain that to me? All he wanted was a truck that ran and performed as expected out of the box. We have full intentions of upgrading and building together, but on his budget and on his time.
As for the $1000 RC's Ihave a $1200 Jato that people laugh at because Ispentso much on it.Dollar value is not the only thing in this hobby. Ilook at my car and think wow Ibuilt that, not wow I spent $1200 on an RC car. Whether you spend $100 on a micro RC orover $1000 on upgrading aJato, remember it's all the same hobby....
End result if anyone cares is that the TX was faulty and replaced by the LHS where we bought it. It was a factory defect from Axial.
For those that offered help with the OP Ithank you,
Gavin

Good luck on the fix for your son's Axial
I hope this episode doesn't sour him on RC. Stuff like that happens, with much more frequency, now that more and more people are getting into it.
Just as a comparison, I see gobs of vids on youtube, of kids with faulty VXL3S ESC's on their new Traxxas 1/16th vehicles.
Pretty sad bunch of kids. I hope they get better value, too.

Glad you found the issue and had it replaced.
I didn't mean to off topic your thread, but I had replied a few times before you said anything of your progress and I was just talking back on what was said to me. Anyhow GL on the rest of it all.

You have to remember RTR cars come with cheap electronics to keep the price low. That's why I now prefer kits over RTR's so I can decide what goes in and im not stuck yelling at junk electronics! The AX10 as it is is a nice car its just the RTR electronics that get people [8D]
