Default 2.2 Pimp Cane "Leeroy" Clod based

This is my new 2.2 Clod Comp Rig.

Spec's
Axles: Clods Bearings and Locked
ESC: XL-5
Motors: Axiom 65t
Pinions: 10t and 11t
Wheels: Pede 2.2's
Tires: 2.2 Mashers filled with Airsoft BB's
Battery Pack: 8 cell IB1400's. 4 cells on each axle
Servo: Tower Pro MG995
Servo for Front Burn: Traxxas 2055
Body: Bug
Chassis: 12.5in Pimp Cane
Radio Gear: TQ3

First pics of Leeroy. I'm running the rear axle backwards. A little trick I learned from Dezfan. This allows the tires to hit the rocks before the Motor a little easier. Also when doing this you gain roughly a 1/2in longer backbone. Which in return over time should give more flex.
d.

Here is a pic of the hardware that comes with the kit. I know it's blurry, but my cheap camera wasn't working right. I'll get all new Pic's and replace these. I have to ask to use the 30D.

I'm using washers lockouts...Just did it too. Seems like it may put extra stress on the C's...Well we will see if it holds up or not.

Well I mounted my Red Rocks and tested to see what kinda flex I was going to get. I was amazed of my findings. I know a few of you remember seeing a Pimp Cane Super being held up and twisted by hand in slow motion. Well I gave it a shot also. It's a crappy Vid but you can still see it. I also took some Flex shots and set it up on it's side with motors up.

each one of the white squares is an inch.

Here's a few pic's.

Well I got the body painted. I took some pic's as I went. I would like to say this is only the 2nd time I have used more then one color and only my 4th body I have ever painted.

Step one: Cut and trim the body on the factory lines. Some poeple do this after it's painted, but I like to do this first. Then wash the body with dish soap and water. Rinse the body clean.

Step two: You can either let it dry over night or use a rag blow dryer to speed things up.

Step three: Apply window mask and liquid masking. I used a brush to apply it.

Step four: With a marker draw your design on the outside of the body. Make sure your body comes with an overspray film.

Step five: Cut out your design with a hobby knife. Don't press to hard or you will leave a groove in the lexan.

Step six: Peel the front part of the masking off and get it ready for paint. I outlined the design with some black paint by hand.

Step seven: After I outlined the cracks. I then sprayed two thin layers of white pearl. I took a tooth brush and some yellow paint. Dipped the tooth brush in the yellow and used my thumb to spray spots all over the front.l Then I backed all that up with orange.

Step eight: I then peeled the rest of the masking off and sprayed some more white pearl and back the whole body with sprit white.

Step nine: Let everything dye and remove he window masking. I used smoke paint to make the windows look tinted. Then let that dye.

Step ten: Remove the outer flim and she's done. Not to bad. I've seen better, but have also seen alot worse.

Now it's time to apply the stickers. The windows aren't really that dark. The flash is making them look darker then they are.

Well I have pretty much done. All that is left is to Mount the rear servo for digs. Got everything wired and ready to go. Battery was pretty dead so I was having some steering issues. But I think it was from the battery. Any here is a few pic's.

Here is a few shots of how everything is layed out. I have the batteries under the axle stays.

A shot of the rear Servo for the front Digs.

Well here is a really short vid climbing a ledge on my Test Rocks. I had to use my rear digs to even crest the top. I drove to the edge. Hit the rear digs and let the front suck down and get traction. Once it pulled it self up undid the rear digs to power the rest of the way up. The video really doesn't do it justice as they never do. But still very impressive for it's first run off the carpet.

D.U.D. Dig Write Up

Well there was a few guys wanting a write up on this. So here you go.
I got this idea from Unholy and Dezfan. D.U.D. = Dezfan Unholy Dig.
What I used for this set up. There is better and more expense stuff to use. But this is what I had laying around and used.

Radio Gear: TQ3
Front Servo: Tower Pro 955mg
Rear Servo: Traxxas 2055
Motors: Axiom 65T
Switch: Refrigerator light switch

You must use a switch that sends power while in the up position. Then when it’s hit by the 2nd servo it shuts the power off.

Step One: Mount your 2nd Servo and Switch on the rear axle. Don’t worry about the horn hitting the switch yet. You can adjust that when it’s all done. Just make sure they are close enough so they will make contact. I used one 3mm 1/2in bolt and a lock nut with a nylon insert to mount the switch. The Servo is mounted with Heavy Duty Velcro. The Velcro is from Radio Shack. It has a 20lb pull on it. So it can handle any servo your choose with ease. I then used a bug Zip tie just to make sure it wasn’t going anywhere.

Step Two: Wire up your front motor to the Neg and Pos from your ESC. Your motor should have 4 post on it. So you will have one Neg and one Pos left. Now solder a Pos wire to the Pos post that left and wire that to the rear motors Pos post.

Step Three: Solder a Neg wire to the last Neg post on the front motor and run it to the switch. The switch as 2 post in it. Just choose one and solder the other end of the Neg wire to it. Now solder a short piece to the other post on the switch and to one of rear motors neg’s post.

Step Four:
Now hit your 3rd channel button on your radio to test it. Adjust your horn so that it matches up with the button on the switch. I dipped the servo horn in plastic dip to give some grip so it wouldn’t slip off.

Here is a Diagram of how it should be wired up and few close ups of the rear servo and switch mounted up on my rig.

That is awesome. Excellent job painting the body, and thanks for offering some insight on the procedure. Those of us (me) that are bodywork-challenged always have need of some tips.

I like that dig, too. The fridge switch is a simple and effective idea for handling the motor power. All in all, you've got an A+ crawler there. :-)

Pfffffft, that POS will never work. It's just a piece of aluminum channel. Were are the links and shocks? What a joke!

It flex pretty good. The way this chassis is designed. You have to drive it to brake the chassis in. The more you drive it the better it gets. Dezfan was just joking about it won't work. He as won the last two Comps with the same chassis. The chassis only cost $46.50.. you don't have to worry about shocks and links catching on rocks and stopping your forward movement. It's also the lightest chassis on the market right now and the lowest center of gravity. Another great thing is it's pretty much bullet proof. I say pretty much is that everything can break, but no one has broke a thing on this chassis in the last year. The longer version got 6th and 7th placed at the Nationals. No one entered a 2.2 Pimp Cane in the 2.2 Class. I'll have better video soon. It's been raining here for 3 days. As soon as the rain and ground dries up I'll get some killer footage.

Yeah I was joking. The Pimp Cane works really well.

Like R2J stated I have won the last two comps w/ it.

That BTA steering set up is from Thundertech. I made my own for like $4.00!

the motor would slip a little but not completely "freewheel" because of the gearing.... but still not locked as brakes.
