Alright, what are most of you using for mast rigging? And.. where can I get it. I was thinking of using spectra line (very small dia. mind you).. but accurately adjusting the mast would be hard at best. I'm not asking for rigging plans.. just what's widely used, and where to get it. Thanks.

Our Big 5 sporting store sometimes carries this seven strand plastic coated wire with crimps. You can also buy it from Great Basin Model yachts at http://gbmy.com
# Stainless Steel 7 Strand Wire for Shrouds and Backstay - Item #213
# Crimps for Wire - Item #215

Hope this helps.

Hi and Happy New Year atwinda
Ive found that Great Basin Modeling Yachting has a great supply of rigging, masts and kits. [link=http://www.gbmy.com/]gbmy[/link]'s link is here. I perfer thier rigging line. The price is reasonable and quick delivery. Other parts are comparable and only a few parts can be found for cheaper anywhere else. If we knew what you are looking for in paticular we could probly help more.

I have quick access to spectra line of all sizes, so that's not what I am worried about so much... but I'm more looking for the hardware to get all this rigged. I custom made my hull, and my spars. My test mast came out great- very stiff. However I need to add the fittings during the layup, not an add on afterwards. I've never seen one of the more advanced rigs plans though, so I don't know what hardware works, etc... obviously everything for the stays needs to be adjustable. I'm also wondering how the stays attach to the mast. my thought was to make small "L" shaped alloy plates with a hole in them... again not asking for rigging plans, but maybe close up pictures of some rigging would be nice.

Hi, Atwinda,

Since you've taken the trouble to make your own mast and spars, I'd suggest you keep the weight, of everything that goes on the mast, as low as possible, to benefit from the lightweight mast.

On my Voyager the carbon mast has a plastic mastcrane and chainplate for the jib stay and side stays, glued into a tiny hole with CA.

Let me know if you want a pic.

Regards, Jan.
