Hey folks,
I have an opportunity to buy a used J class boat. It is old and hasn't been sailed in a few years but appears to be a well made boat. The problem is the owner has removed the receiver and installed it in another R/C toy. If I buy this boat, I will have to install a new receiver and set everything up again. The owner believes it should be operated with a three channel setup, 1 for rudder, 1 for main and another for the Jib. I operate my other boat with only two channels. Where should I go to get a good three channel system. I'll need a transmitter and a receiver. Does anyone have a recommendation for the price for a used J? This is a big boat with a lot of weight in the keel. It comes with sails and a homemade sail cabinet for transporting.
Thanks

Hi Dinosaur, Saw your old post, did you ever get that J boat? What happened with the radio? I'd imagine also that a 'J' would be a pretty penny, well over a thousand for a finished boat? Curious myself, I am building a Newport 12, and also have a Heritage 12 by Dumas. Got any pics? I'd be especially interested in close shots of the mast and fittings, along with servos and setup there. Thanks

Hello 1967250s -Ive been looking for a larger scale boat for a while and noticed you have a newport 12. Ive been looking for one for a while and looking for any info I could find.Luckly Ive seen more threads showing up on the net showing pictures. Im looking at going the more scale route with planked decks and scale fittings.Ive been checking ebay for any hulls but no luck. Do they still manafacture them.On the AMYA site they list Mcclung enterpiises link but it doesnt load. Also how does she sail ,Ihave 1meter boats and looking for something with less bouncing around, plus I love the look of the old j hulls. Thanks

Hey Stevo
In the last issue of ModelYachting is was reported that they have approved a new builder for Newport 12 s . from Riverside , Ca. Kay Tillman can be reached thru Email : [email protected]
Also there has been a N12 listed on Ebay for a while : item # 290345242192 .that boat is in Ca.
Also in the AMYA classifieds there has been a Ranger J listed all year - from Florida ,all up turn key boat .
Also some guy has a 59" hull/deck only on Ebay : item # 150371427782 from Florida .
I would recommend contacting the class secretaries of either Newport 12s or J class for info - they should know who is selling
or has the bits and pieces to build . good luck !
( I AM NOT associated with any of the above items - I am an independent busy-body )

Thanks Allen ,thats the info Ive been looking for.I just emailed Kay Tillman and hopefully find what Im looking for. I will also take your advice about contacting the class secretaries as well, they should have the most up to date info.Ive basically set my site on the N12 hull for a few reasons .It has close lines to the j class hulls and its 6 foot lenght is the size Ive been looking for. Looking to do a scale but functional deck within reason. Im still learning my way around the AMYA site. Thanks again Stephen
