Does anyone have an AC class sailboat? I have one with K-Marine racing in a stick on, anyone know who made it? I am also curious about the plans on the AMYA store site, Bahamut, Leviathan, and Boogieman, where are some pictures of them? I've looked all over the net and can't find any decent pictures of AC boats, but lots of M class, 1 meters, J's, EC12's, etc. Please help me find some, post what you have. Here is mine..

The AC Class Rules have changed recently, the fast AC Boats under the old rule are Tech One's built by Wick Smith, there are several around the country. Go to AMYA page and go to AC class website, it is dated but updates are coming soon due to new class secretary.

Hi, Thanks for the note. Yeah, I've seen the site and joined AMYA. Yet from what I can find looking around at probably over 100 sites, I find very little. I have read of Wick Smith, but I don't know his web site, can you send it? Do you know of any others? I'd really like to find more and maybe find some sails. I've put up questions on rcuniverse and rc groups and this is my first answer. Is this a secret club or something? Where are all the owners and boats? How many were built? Do you have one and pictures? Thanks.

Wick Smith is a member of the Detroit Model Yacht Club. I don't have the honor of owning one of his AC's but I do know they are really sharp boats. He produces sail under the Smith Sails name. You should be able to contact him through the DMYC web site, he is listed as the 1.7 Meter fleet captain.

This is Wick. What info are you looking for. Although we are not sailing AC's in Detroit any more I do still have access to boats and info.

Hello Wick, I am trying to find out who may have made my AC boat , and what design it is. I am an AMYA member, seen the class sights, and am stumped, I only find about 5 pictures of AC boats, nothing close up. I'm also looking for a set of used sails cheap. Will someone put up some photos, please? Here are some more of my 'yacht'

Hello Camie, Nice to hear from you. What type of AC boat do you have? Can you post up some pictures on rcuniverse or maybe on rcgroups? I'd love to see it, and I'm sure others would like to also. I'm not sure of the manufacturer of my boat and only have some far sailing shots from some sites if other AC boats. Mine is made from what appears to be a formica type laminate, an aluminum slotted mast with wood booms. No manufacturer marks I can see, except for some stickers on deck- K Marine Racing- which may be just the previous owners addition. I've also been looking for some sails. I think i listed the dimensions and I don't have the boat with me to recheck them.
Where do you sail? Any other boats? I have a Newport 12, Dumas Heritage EC 12, an unbuilt 1 meter, and the AC. If you look at my posts here and on rcgroups.com, you'll see what's going on. Ok, gotta run, Good sailing!

In the second pic the top boat is a Wick Smith Design. Blue boat is a Bob Sterne.
Blue boat won the US Nationals this year.
Both boats will be in Buffalo, NYon Sunday 4th for CAN/AM Challenge.
I've only recently started with the AC boats and am loving every minute of it.
Will scratch around for more info regarding boats in the area, sail makers, parts, etc.
Will post more pic's from CAN/AM next week.

My boat looks an awful lot like the Sterne boat, including the mast and boom, but I don't have the cut away deck. Pray tell what are the dimensions? Oh, and all the boats look great! I'm jealous that I wasn't there sailing with you. Where were you sailing? Do you know who might have an old set of sails for sale? And where did you get the keel?

Hello 1967250sI belong to the Blue Crab Model Yacht Club, Germantown, MD but have not being sailing with them this year. I have only gotten out once at the Montgomery Village lake this year. My boats are the AC Class #13 , C914, J boat Whirlwind (work in progress), and my 57” type unknown. I am rebuilding the AC replacing the servos and reconfiguring the deck. Bought the boat a couple of years ago and I understand that it was built by Wick. It came with two sets of sails. The J boat Whirlwind I am building into a gaff rig modeled after the 1905 Doris by Herreshoff. The 57” I got from EBay years ago. I have not been able to find any like her. She was made in the mid 80s. The closest boat I have found with the same dimensions is a Challenger A3. Note I added my Armed Forces Stars and Stripes flag I came with after 9-11. Hope you like it.

Hi Camie, those are great looking boats! The J sounds interesting, too. I've been thinking about building a wood J boat, just have to decide which one! Not that I have the space, either, LOL. Maybe we could meet when you go sailing again. I "live" in Alexandria. Actually, I travel a lot working on aircraft electronics, but I'll probably be there for the next couple of months. I always wanted to go out to Annapolis to sail with their club, out on the Bay, but I could just as easily come up to Germantown or Montg'y villlage. I have to finish it, but I hope to get my Newport out soon. You can see my build over on rcgroups under the same name.

Sorry to only be getting back to you now.
Extremely busy at work and am working on a new boat. Also a Wick Smith design, 1.7 Meter!!
The blue boat is 69 1/2" long, weighs about 26 lbs.
If you look at the last picture of the four boats together, the boat on the far right is the same hull, only the generation before mine, with a flat deck.
Look carefully inside your hull, there will be a tag laid into the glass work with the details of the boat if it is a Sterne boat.
Mine is an Advantage II, hull #2.
We sailed at the home pond of RAMYA (Rochester,NY). Place called Carey Lake. Beautiful venue.
I forgot my camera at home when we went to the Can/Am last weekend!!!
In Buffalo we sailed on Muir Lake. North East Buffalo.
Canada won the trophy, so it will be up to the guys to the south next year to try and get it back.
Sailed regatta in the morning (blue boat won again) and then match raced in the afternoon. At the end of it all there was a tie. A tie break was sailed between myself and the top US entrant. Blue boat brought home the trophy, only just.
The keel came with the boat. If we need a keel, then we pour our own. Plenty of work, but that's half the fun of R/C sailing, the building.
If you are looking for new sails, then try Rod Carr. He makes awesome sails.
Send him your dimensions (leach, luff, foot) and possibly the old sails and he will build you a set.
I have no idea where to even start looking for old pre-owned sails.
Like I said earlier I am totally snowed under at work at the moment. As soon as I see daylight I'll gather up some info regarding sails for you.
Fair winds my friends!

I am lookin at two AC boats. The boats look like awesome sailing boats that are really cool. Is there anyone who sails one of these out here on the west coast. Gene the class secretary is a cool and very helpful guy. Seems like Mr. Wick is a class guru. Wonder why there are not more of these boats around. Ryan
