RE: THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AIRPLANES
Ok, here we go again with the 'in the eye of the beholder"
How about a Curtiss Robin? My next two builds will be a Curtiss Robin and a Culver Cadet. The Curtiss Robin is what my Grandfather flew with my Dad on his lap and where he got the flying bug, and then the Culver Cadet is what my Dad bought, rebuilt, and my brother and I flew in with him The Culver pictures are of right after Dad finished re-building it and painting it. My Dad, my Sister, and me in one pic and me on the wing in the other (1962?). The picture of the yellow Culver is the same plane but much later after Dad sold it.
My other all time favorites are the P-51D model and the S2Carbon Cub.

The Piper Cub J3, I flew one in the mid-60's while attending college in So. Central KY, and it was cub yellow. I have 3 Cubs, L4, J3 and a yellow Giant Scale yellow J3.

RE: THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AIRPLANES
The most beautiful airplane is the one that does the job and then brings you home safely! Doesn't matter if it's a fighter, bomber, freighter, airliner or puddle hopper.
That being said:
Most beautiful piston fighter has to be the Spitfire, not a straight line to be found. Beautiful curves, air racing lineage, incredible wing design and probably the best dogfighter of WW2. Constantly upgraded and improved it could out turn, out accelerate and out climb the P-51 and most other fighters of it's day.

RE: THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AIRPLANES
What about the Dehavilland Comet- Specifically the prototype, no paint, just the aluminium glinting like mad...
....In fact, how about a vote for the earlier D.H 88 Comet Racer as well?

I'm a sucker for the Golden age aircraft. My vote is for the Aeronca LC. I'd love to build one one day.

OK the only reason that I mention this is because of the nickname that it had.... I was a crew chief on the C-124...you know a million and a half rivets flying in loose formation., and it wasn't one of the slickest things in the air ...if you know what I mean.
