Looks like you have gotten a good jump on the "little wing" hahahahaah

That top one is going to be like the roof to a car port....

Default DVII ...Day 7 Test fit wings to the Fuselage .

Today I am 39 hours into build...Got both bottom wings trailing edge Scallops cut out , pre shaped , sanded and assembled ,,Got both wings cap stripped on the top of the ribs . Got plywood boxes built and fitted into both wings ....Got the plywood box built and installed in the fuselage . I will be using a 1 inch square Aluminum tube to hold lower wings to fuse . I used a 1/2 inch hardwood dowel rod to hold the trailing edge in place to the fuse . MY BIRD HAS TWO WINGS ............Two more to go ! I set the wings on the Aluminum tube ,stuck the dowel rods in the holes on the sides of the fuse ,stepped back ,,,,,way back and got my first view of the 12 foot wing span .........The Top wing will be another two and a half feet longer ! I wiped a teer from my eye !

Now if it was me I would add a few plywood hard spots on the wings where you have a place to mount a tiny video camera on board to take views of the plane and the surroundings in flight... I am telling you its lots of fun to go home, slip the data card into a pc and watch the view from your plane after flying. its also interesting to see how things do or don't flex, the cloth ripple or even how much control inputs you are making.. and there is even a chance to see if anything bad is going on in flights that you are unaware of....

Default DVII ...Day 8 Top center Section ,Main Ribs .

Day 8 i.....44 hours in to build ,,,I traced my patterns onto 1/4 inch plywood sheets .14 Main ribs for the center section and inboard upper wing panels (Root Ribs ) . Got all 14 ribs cut out and sanded ,,,I cut the Main spars and cleaned them up with the wood planer , the Center Section is 42 inches wide ...I will be using a 2 inch round Aluminum Tube to help support the wings . I used 1/2 x 3.25 x 36 inch Balsa stock to make the Leading Edge ,just as I did for the Lower Wings ! Dang It took allot of wood just for the Ribs ........Progress Continues !

Are those center wing section ribs Baltic birch? or lite ply?

Just wondered.. Also where is you favorite place to buy your balsa and other woods? I don't recall if you mentioned that.

Lance,,I have stock piled wood for years ,,,,,I had purchased allot of wood from SIG when they were in business , I have several boxes of all thickness balsa sheets , from 1/2 thick down to 1//32 .......36 , 42 ,48 ,,lengths ....I have aircraft plywood , Birch Lite Ply . 1/32 ,1/16 ,1/8 , 1/4 .. in 48 inch lengths . I mean I have BOXES of wood .....I use Balsa USA for smaller stock orders I need .....Aircraft spruce is a good source for nice plywood .....you can get sheets 4 x 4 foot square really reasonable ....,,,The outer Ribs are 1/4 in Plywood 5 layer ,,,,,the 6 inner ribs are Birch plywood 3 layers ...I am using Spruce spars on the lower wings and upper center section ,,,I am using a different wood for the top wing Spars ,,

I have been hording balsa for future builds as well. But it sounds as though you are ahead of me a ways! .... I have family in Montezuma (SIG) now, and thats where my Dads family all comes from (in the surrounding farming area...) So I am always glad to hear people are buying from SIG.

When you order the ply from Aircraft spruce is it more like LITE PLY or the 1/8th Baltic birch? Also if it is the lighter Baltic birch what do they charge you for shipping on 4 by 4 sheets?

I have a source for 5 by 5 baltic birch in DesMoines, but its quite a bit heavier than lite ply. Its not unusable on bigger planes.. just a bit heavier.

They charge about 38.00 dollars....I talked them in to rolling up the thin aircraft plywood,,instead of shipping it in a 4 x 4 sheet . that is the only plywood i have ordered from Aircraft spruce lately ..was the .Birch ply 3 layers thick .

I got some preliminary weights tonight .....Fuse is 22 pounds ,,,1 lower wing panel is 3.50 pounds 1 top wing panel is 6.50 pounds ,,,,the top wing center section is 7.50 pounds ,,,,39 pounds total so far ........That is what my 1/3 competition DVII weighed at ready for flight ! She is going to put on a little more weight as I continue....my goal is 85 pounds flyimg !
