Looking forward to this years ODP (finally). Only in the last few weeks have I gotten motivated to get my little, war weary looking Fokker EIV into flying shape from it's year plus of sitting in the shop collecting dust. Learning a new radio system has added to the fun too.

What's TALLYHO! in German?

ODP and Cincinnati Aeromedelers are the best!

Calendars and Books are in too.

All of the books are autographed by Philip Makanna.

I have a few 2016 calendars left if you didn't get yours (at a drastically reduced price of course).

Wow Paul, you've outdone yourself this time! A 1/2 scale Wright Flyer? Holy crap. I hope she holds together. How big of an engine did you put in that baby?

I'll arrive as close as possible to Dawn on Friday with my 1/3 scale Pup, paintball gun fully charged!

Really looking forward to seeing the dawn patrol gang and reconnecting. Work has been consuming me and I need a break! Can't think of too many better ways to spend a weekend than this. Art, that's a cool story about your D7, can't wait to see it!

Hi Greg!

I'll save you a place on the flight line for the dawn flight........that flight lifts off at 5:45 to 6:00 AM, depending on cloud cover.
Great to have some more of the gang chiming in!

Still working on my DVII - should be finished tonight (I hope).

over & out,

Greg,
We have a DA170 with about 3-1 reduction drive. I hope it holds together too!
Should yield over 100 lbs of thrust and all up weight should be around 85 lbs.

Afternoon, all
First off, apologies to the planet, and everyone involved, as I've been off-grid for several months this year as work (that what foots the bill for everything else) has been unusually busy - they just ain't got enough Lee's to get the needed work done, and the one they have is sure getting old!!

Helen and I will be driving down to the event Thursday morning - I'm taking Wed afternoon off to pack (LOTs of fiddly bits to track down for this trip!). Hoping to arrive mid-Afternoon on Thursday.

I hear you, Greg - not sure how, but the more work tools we have, the less time becomes available!! I've taken 2.5 days vacation so far this year - and two of them were for IOK - the only time I've had a chance to fly this year!!

We're bringing the 1/4 BUSA Pup, which fortunately needs less maintenance than it did rolling into IOK.

Also bringing my 2016 project - a 1/4 scale "Blue Max Albatros D-III" - have had very little time to work on it, but did manage to get paint on the rudder, and started cutting out the 300plus polygons on the 7 templates needed for the Blue Max Lozenge scheme.

Hoping to get one template finished (at least) this weekend to try to put some color on the plane.

'til later,

Lee McD

You might want to reconsider ------ the last time you were the one who took home a broken airplane
.....I'm just saying.

Looking forward to seeing you again. Have a safe trip.

Hi Art,

That sounds like a plan! I might just make that lift-off time, but I'll have to figure out how to assemble the Pup in the dark.

Hi Lee, your workplace sounds like mine! See you guys soon.

Hi Paul,

Is that Bellanca going to fly at ODP as well as the 1/2 scale Wright Flyer? Is the Bellanca close to full scale? I've lost all sense of proportion with you guys and your ultra-giant scale creations!

10 years! Holy cow! I'm very much looking forward to rolling in Thursday AM. Once again, my first flight of the year will be at the ODP. I wish I could just blame work, The past couple of years I've wondered what's the point of taking more pictures? But every year I seem to get juiced and find a way to get some decent ones, and that one or two "wow" shot/s. It pleases me to no end.

Paul, add a calendar to you list of prizes as usual.

Still waiting for someone to tell me what "Tally Ho! is in German.

Paul,
I am very sorry to say I will not be making it out this year. Roger Spoore just passed away today. He had been fighting F'n cancer. Less than six months from the time he found out to today. I have been flying with him over 16 years. You may remember him from Past MAD Patrols. He was and still is a great guy.We were able to get him to War birds over Delaware for a week of good times. I am glad he got to go and enjoy the times we had. He will be missed very much.
I hope your event goes well and I guess Art can relax now. LOL I am at work writing this and have my trailer pack and ready to go. I had planned to leave from work. Don't much feel like driving now. I hope you understand. I hope to see you at the MAD Patrol. Please say howdy to all and again I am sorry I will miss your event. This is a very sad day for all of us here.

I'll let the ones more eloquent with the written word (LEE) give a more detailed after action report of the 2016 ODP, but suffice it to say it was full of "wonderfullness".

Many thanks to all the good folks of the Cincinnati Aeromodelers for their hospitality at the 10th (and best yet) )hio Dawn Patrol.

Aside from my near disaster with the EIV Friday morning (more on that excitement later) I had a good time. Lots of photos taken, and lots of editing to do, but here are a few of the better ones from Friday. Enjoy.

Greg Emerick's 1/3 Pup.

It's not often that an underside pic has this much personality. Greg's Pup looks great.

Andy Marone's 1/3 Sopwith Triplane and a 1/3 Nieuport 28.

A couple of 1/3 Nieuport 28s.

Paul Westrich's 1/3 Pup before the great cowl munching episode.
