Default GP Cap232 info.

Looking at the Great Planes Cap232 as a next project; anyone have any experience with building and flying this model? Typical GP? Thanks.

You should find a LOT of info by doing a search on Great Planes CAP in these forums. I would recommend an engine no smaller than the OS.70. I think the new Saito .82 would be fantastic as sell as the Saito .91. I have almost unlimited vertical power with my OS.70, a little more umph would be nice. I am at 1870 feet elevation. I built mine without any real modification other than to cut out some formers in the fuel tank area to be able to raise the tank to the mid-level of my carburator. I have found the stock landing gear mount to be strong enough but my field is well groomed grass. I did change the LG attachment to just 1/4x20 nylon bolts. They broke once when I had a dead stick......no damage because I was landing fast and the wheel pants cleared the wing without piercing.

Some info on mine is here:

This plane is a dream. It builds the same as all the Great Planes kits do. I did add a little triangle stock to reenforce the landing gear plate and I have not had any trouble with it at all. I have an OS 70 4 stroke on mine and she just moves right along. I am still playing with the CG to get it to do all that I want it to do. It will knife edge all day long and the rolls and loops are picture perfect. I would highly recomend it. Good Luck, Dave

I just noticed that there is a thread going in the kits forum. The fellow just flew his for the first time.

Thanks for the comments.... I prefer OS engines over the Saito.... can't get those finicky Saito's to settle down. Wish OS made an 80. I think the proper prop on the OS70 should do the job; I was curious about the wing sheeting.... is it too thin? Thumbs go through it too easily? A problem with GP kits (or maybe just my thumbs).

I have not had any problems with the sheeting. You can always up size the sheeting if you think it is going to be a problem. Good Luck, Dave

Wing sheeting is a comfortable 3/32, not the 1/16 that is found with the Great Planes Extra 300S. 60 size. It is easy to work with.

Great Kit. Mine's done, except the cowl painting. Throw away the ABS POS that comes with it an buy a fiberglass on at Stan's Fibertech.

Also, there seems to be an error in the die cutting of the rear fuse formers and/or the fuse sides. Myself and another individual attempted to bring it to the attention of the the GP rep here on RCU, but he didn't seem to care.....[:'(]

Otherwise, all of them I've seen fly have been awesome and I'm eager to get mine flying. It will have a Saito 91 for Power....

You guys are talking me into the kit again; I have an OS 70 in mind, it sounds like some of you believe it should take a bigger engine. There is always that fine-line between just the right engine and too much..... what is the concensus? I want a 4stroke and prefer OS over Saito..... hovering would be something new for me and I assume the 91 Surpass would be the engine for that. Keep those opinions coming.......

Since we are talking engines for this kit, for those of you who are flying it with a 90 4stroke, are there any ideas you would incorporate if you were to build it all over again? Is the engine weight justified by the performance? What did you do to the firewall? 2 wing servo's? Landing gear? Wingroot reinforcement?
