Default Kyosho Tiger Moth first fliight problems

I have a new Kyosho TM and took it for its maiden flight a couple of days ago. Although all control surface throws were set as suggested in the book and elevator, ailerons etc set to neutral and the C of G was checked I had to apply full down elevator to get level flight and the plane also veered quite strongly to the right. A very heavy landed was the final result and luckily a broken strut the only damage. In looking at a review of the KYOSHO TIGER MOTH 40 ARF by Bob Wallace he mentions similar teething problems although my experience was clearly worse than his. The engine is a Magnum 52 4 stroke. I have now put a washer behing the two top engine mount screws to give the engine some more down thrust. I have not tried to fly again yet (building up the courage to do so) but has anybody else had a similar experience with this model and any suggestions about other ways to improve the handling (aside from obvious changes to the trims).

I have the TM with a Saito 56 in it. I've been flying it for about three years. I've had none of the problems that you describe. I did balance mine fairly nose heavy. Mine flies very scale and lands great. I do have to give a fair amount of right rudder on take off. I usually take off between half and three-quarters throttle.

You didn't put your cabane struts on backwards did you? The diagnal should go from back to front and the top wing should have a couple of degrees of negative incidence. Mine flies great on a Saito .56 and required no noseweight or trim changes from the first flight. I must have 100 flights on the airplane and it is a lot of fun and very relaxing to fly. Don

This is my most flown plane, and one of my favourites, also with a saito 56. Make sure you have your wings lined up correctly and that you are balancing it right. I think that this plane does lift a lot due to the flat bottomed airfoil, I trim mine at 1/2 throttle and it is a baby to fly. I will say though that it is the only plane that I have ever had that I have to retrim almost every flight due to slight changes in the configuration of the wings when I transport it or hang it up, just minor but it happens. I have not known anyone have to modify this plane to make it fly as per instructions. I would adjust the elevator with a little more down in it if the cg and everything is right, then fly it and retrim, once it is trimmed it does fly great. Make sure your rudder is centered well too.
Good Luck
Paul
