I haven't flown it yet. There's still snow on the ground up here. I put two servos in the wings. Power is an OS 91 Surpass. I covered mine with SuperShrink Coverite and painted it with LustrKote.

Yes, there was a graphics set with the kit. They were Missle Red, I believe. They didn't match the Dark Red LustreKote. I sanded them with 400 grit paper and sprayed them with LustreKote. We'll see if the paint sticks to the graphics after they get fuel on them.

In my opinion, the Pica WACO is an intermediate kit. I didn't think it was difficult to build. As with all kits, it's best to study the plans and instructions before applying glue.

The instructions were vague in a couple areas of wing construction. Wing ribs need to be laminated, and I made a mistake. If I would/ve studied the plans better, I would've caught it.

There's a lot of building to do, but it's not difficult.

Default RE: Looking for a WACO kit

I just started a 1/5 scale Pica Waco this week for a friend of mine, my first Pica kit and I am quite impressed. Good quality wood, laser cut, but I also found a couple of steps out of sequence in the instructions and I didn't catch them until I had to "re-engineer". I am changing from a single aileron servo in the wing root to separate servos in each lower wing panel as well as separate elevator servos (gotta love computer radio mixing!!!). Customer also wants a complete scale cockpit so I am looking for photos of full size interiors.

Pica will be back in business by September. The WACO should be in their kit line up. You may have to wait until then.

I guess that you'll have to register with RCSB if you want to view the threads. http://www.rcscalebuilder.com/

Pica 1/6 a nd 1/5 Wacos are a good bang for the buck. The newer laser cut kits do feature a white with red trim and the vacume parts are better. The old blue/yellow trim kits were the early ones and I know there have been improvements in the kit with the new ones. Hopefully this attachment comes across. This has been my scale competition ac for a number of years, yea everybody gives me grief as to when the new project for competition will be ready to go.
This is built from the old blue/yellow 1/5 kit with quite a few scale modifications. Engine is OS 160 twin and flying weight is about 15 lbs. good luck with your Waco hunt.

Man O man, I have the 1/5 Waco, still NIB, that was bought for me years ago. Got the glass cowl and interior even. I told my wife about how it seems to have become somewhat of a collectible.. said "I might even sell it".. she says.."NO!! Don't you dare". Tis one of her favorite planes.. Guess I'll hafta build it!
