Hello:

I am about to start scratch building a Lancaster Bomber, and what I require is some information. Does anyone know of a good web site out there for some good pics and details on this aircraft?

Craig.

Craig: Try a search using google. www.google.com

I did a fast search using Lancaster bomber and another using AVro Lancaster. There was a Lancaster restoration project, it looked interesting. Well there it is, good luck.
Happy landings,Tony

Yea, I remember that huge plane.
I missed the crash! I must always be in the Johnny can as their rolling up the runway.

But I do remember thinking to myself how that guy was going to be leaving little bits and pieces of that plane along the highways the whole way back up to Canada. I remember I watched him roll out of Bomber Field with a heap of balsa bits piled up in the shape of a pyramid on that home-made fruit crate of a trailer. Kind of felt sorry for the poor *******. He's probably now taken up fishing.

Merlin65,
The 5 year long Lancaster! Goodness... that plane took him almost as long to build as the war took from start to finish!
Too bad this was another large Lancaster model that met its fate similiar to the Canadian guy me and Vance were talking about. You know, the longer I'm in this hobby the more I come to despise gravity!!!!

Default Canadian Lanc...

The owner of the Lanc which crashed is the current President of MAAC the Canadian equiv of the AMA. He's built several and is in the process of doing another after moving.

I saw him in Toldeo and asked for a copy of his CAD on CD but as yet have not seen it. Ya...know they tend to move in different circles the closer you get to the polar regions... :^)

Ed,
It's got nothing to do with how much gravity or space-time is between his poles. (Or was it something you said about how much the magnatism made him walk in circles in Poland? Anyway...)

The real issue is: Why should our Canadian buddy want to share with you his CAD plans for the secret of the superior Lanc? This hobby is only big enough for one Superior Lancaster you know. And only THAT one shoud alone ride supreme on that trailer of his that I described above!!! (Because two heaps of balsa tid bits instead of one, blowing around on the highways would surely get you a ticket for littering)

Default Canadian Lanc

Our friend to the North has built several Lancs over the years. I guess I'm disappointed in as much that he offered to send me his CAD drawings.

I have waited patiently as he has had his hands full with the FAI World Championships. After hosting what was anticipated to be a huge revenue generating event, the Canadians realized a considerable loss. That alone is enough to cause memory lapses ;^) I've not given up...

Default Take Off EH!

Hey what is with all this Canadian bashing?

I suppose no American has ever totaled a model before!

Just kidin guys, but you should lighten up too.

Ed have you tried a friendly reminder? Like you said he is the President of MAAC and I am sure it may have slipped his mind or maybe he lost your address during his move! You can contact Wayne through our national web site MAAC.

I was at the Worlds up here in the Great White North! Yes it was a little disappointing that the competitor turnout was a little low but I am sure that this has been the case across North America since 911.

I can tell you the people that did show had a good time and put on a good show for the spectators. The weather was great all week with the exception of one day. They have not done the final count but it looks like a loss of only around $5K. Not too bad considering no one involved had tackled a project this big before.

So get off our cases and go back to what counts... building and flying model airplanes! Were not that different from y'all anyways EH!

PS: Great site Ed, I visit often!

Keep in mind RCU is International. The "poor slob/poor *******" is obviously a Lanc fan and may well check in on this post. I know you guys didn't mean anything by it but it may not come across that way to others. This is coming from Chad Veich the RCU member and not Chad Veich the RCU moderator. Just my .02 cents.

Thanks for the numerous replies. I was looking for information on the Lancaster, not a bunch of slander back and forth. LOL
I do like to have fun too. If anyone could guide me in the direction of some good sites dealing with the Lancaster I would appreciate it.

Thanks
Craig.

Well since our Canuck friend let us give him such a hard time and didnt complain to much just thought would be nice now and post him a few links. Canuck I use a small program called WEBFERRET you can get at http://www.ferretsoft.com. it is better than online search engines as it searches the entire web and other search engines at once and has built in stuff that keeps out 90% of the junk sites ie the ones you always get with most search engines that do a search for Airplane and half your links are to some pneumatic wood or metal cutting plane. So all you guys might wanna think about it I have found so many links that wouldnt show up on a normal search engine as I thought I had all i could find on the ME109 til i gave it a try with this.

The Great Book Of WWII Airplanes has an excellent Lanc section. Believe you'll enjoy Wantanabe's artwork on the gatefold pages.

Squadron Signal has a sale going on... Check out their N-SA6536 Avro Lancaster: A Compreshensive Guide for the Modeler It was 39.95 and now 29.96. Perhaps someone here owns this book and can shed some light on its contents. Sounds like it covers the subject well.

Hi,
I think there is a Lancaster (full size) at Nanton Alberta that you could take a close look at.. you may want to check into it.

Hey there!

I'm fortunate enough to live close to Canadian Warplane Heritage in Hamilton, Ontario. They have one of the two flying Lancasters on the planet, the other being in Britain. It was flying over our city a couple of weeks ago being filmed at the Brantford Airport for a British documentary. Here's a link to their Lancaster section on their website.

www.warplane.com/pages/aircraft_lancaster.html

By the way, anyone local to the area here no doubt has seen the Memphis Belle at our local air service undergoing repairs as well. My 6 yr old son and I were one of the lucky stiffs to tour the inside. Wish we could go for a ride! I'll try and scan a pic or two of the Belle if anyone's interested.
