JohnnyO, just know we are with you - and patiently waiting for you to work your magic and offer the rest of us your products for this special airframe. May sure that whatever you offer for sale, let me be number 3 on your sell list. Smile. I'm partial to the number 3. Chic

chic, thanks. I will let everyone know when parts become avaliable. I want to make sure the caopy frame and windscreen work out before offering. (actually this is the next thing on the list, mating the canopy to the inner and outer frames. Will probably make the 50 cal gun pod avaiable as well for those that want to modify their Byron, Iron Bay. the pylons are balsa and lite ply or which I would provide drawings for. I tried make a mold to build fiberglass units, due to their narrow width, didn't work out so well. If anyone out there would like a completed unit to make a mold from, let me know, you probably have a much better way of going about the molding business than I do.

It's pretty cool but.

I'd be more interested in one if it was all composite and would handle a Moki 250 Radial.

Greg, you may want to contact Darrell at Siearra, he purchased the molds etc from Bob Patton. Bob's t28 is 23% which is quite a bit larger than mine at 20%. I sure the 250 would work fine in that airframe. I do have a couple of customers that are planning on using the Moki 150.

Thanks for taking a look. got a bit more done on #2, you know little things.

Hi Johnny

Hope you are well.

I have been reading your thread with great interest and would be keen to purchase a full kit from you. I have emailed you directly but not had any reply... think my email may have hit your junkbox!

Very interested in the full kit if you could let me know when available please?

I look forward to hearing from you

Kind regards

Ryan

Ryan, thank you for your interest. Have you had a chance to view the website? www.scalercstuff.com I have been a bit lax in updating the recent build pictures. I will try to get that done soon. the only thing on the kit that I am having trouble with getting done are the scale flap hinges. My previous laser cutter was cutting these form G10 material, he has retired and I am looking for some one that can cut roughly 1/16" G10. But will find someone I'm sure. Delivery right now on the kit is roughly 4 weeks.
try emailing me again.

thanks for the interest

Very nice build. There used to be a T28 a few blocks from me at the local airport here. I used to enjoy hearing it fly over my house on Saturday morning. A question on the PETG plastic: Any tricks when vacuum forming, such as, does it need to be pre-dried like butyrate ect?

YAT, just need a new cowl plug and your good to go. I actually did a full 1/5 size fuselage side view back a near or so when you and I were discussing the project.
Redtail, actually Lenny at schindin was working on them, butn that's been some time ago and I think he has gotten very busy with his real job, I am in the process of working with a gentlemen in Brazil that does retracts. you can check out his work on Utube, search for Sidney douglas merizzio. He has some great info on his work. Very reasonable. Full set with struts, roughly $700.00 US. I met to ask if you would be interested, as he is wanting to what kind of interest there might be in these. I have sent him funds to start the prototype. This has certainly been a process trying to find someone to do these with the all the right angles etc.

JohnnyO, if you will fly with the Brazilian gear in your scale model, so will I. I have your kit, might as well have gear that is made specifically for it. Chic

Thought I posted a reply to the couple of new posts, but must have done something wrong.
YAT, asdd about 2" to the vertical, and make a new cowl plug and canopy and your good to go. I actually did a full size 1/5 fuselage drawing back a year or so ago when you and I were discussing the YAT.
Redtail; yep still working on number 2. Bee working on the cockpit and am pretty much done, will mount the canopy on the inside frame and then mount the fiberglass outer frame next week. As for the retracts, this has been a real stumbling block, but I feel pretty good about it, as I have been in contact with a gentlemen in Brazil that does some very I quality work with rc retracts. Go to Utube and search Sidney douglas merizzio, you'll see some of his work. Gear is probably going to run around $700.00 US with the struts etc.
thanks for staying in touch. I will be posting a few more build pics. Maybe on this post, if I can figure the system out.
if the pics posted, they are of checking the incidence and setting the wing saddle.

Thanks Chic, that makes 3 sets thus far, I am pretty confident the gear will be very nice. Douglas looks to be a very meticulous fabricator. where you able to take a look at his Utube stuff. Here are a couple of pics of setting the incendence on # 2

back with a little information on the retracts from brazil. Here is a few pics of the design process. As you can see this should be a very high quality set of gear. I will keep you updated with the progress.

here are a few more pics of the T28 landing gear in the design stage, shouldn't be too long until machining is started. The landing gear issue I have dealt with over the last few years may be coming to a great resolve..

Johnny,

That looks great!! The biggest problem I see in these gears for 28's is they always sit too high. I cut as much spring out of mine and it still looks high. Of course I just used standard robart struts so...I am thinking the throw on any of the struts made and scissors are just shorter and make her stand up. If he makes his squat under load more than the others out there that would be great!! Watching as thinks progress here with your new source.

JohnnyO, I saw the P-40 gear on Youtube. You know I'm with ya. This puppy will be a great build for me after I finish my Avenger. Don't forget me with regards to the canopy frame. Smile. Thanks. Chic

Guys, thanks for keeping up with the progress. the drawings I sent to Doug regarding the mains show the strut 1/2" shorter than the Robarts, this will help a bit. The problem of course, is that you have to have enough travel in the shock to actually have some cushion for a not so perfect landing. (most of mine). On eh full scale, the struts "settle" after everything is shut down, in pics you will note that the scissors is almost completely collapsed when parked. I did the same thing as Chic, removed about 1 1/2" of spring, If I put a bit of weight on the ac when setting it does squat down and stay there until you start moving it around, then they extend, but they are quite a bit softer when landing.

For those following along on the retracts being manufactured for this kit, I've included new pictures of the prototype parts done in plastic. These will be test samples to make sure everything fits prior to making from aluminum. I am pretty excited about this gear.

I have a question for you T-28 experts, why do some airplanes have the lower cowl inlet (7 o'clock position), and some not. Different engine perhaps?

Thanks,

Craig, I know what scoop you are referring to as I included that on the edition of my 1/5. But for the life of me I can,t remember just what it is for. I do some checking. Good question. maybe someone else has the answer.

I'm getting pretty excited over the new T28 gear. here are a few pics of the prototype through the machining stage. they have not the finish work done to them yet. Pretty awesome. Your comments welcome. Also mounted the wing to fuse on T28 # 2, and the cockpit is basically done, I will post pics as soon as I do a couple of finish items.
