Gary, we were at 36# before paint, as mentioned needed a little nose weight. I added 120z to the nose Saturday night, so figuring paint and the added nose weight, roughly 37#. Enterior will add another 5-6oz and the dummy radial probable 6 oz. Totally finished should be around 38 or so. Do you know if Iron Bay offers a dummy radial for the T28?

Well we got a couple more trim flights on the T28 this Saturday. The nose weight worked out well. However it did change the take-off roll to more than double. With the 4 degree down thrust in the engine, you need to build good airspeed to get the wing to rotate. Flew very very well. real stable, excellent roll rate. Developed a little aerliron flutter on a high speed pass. Well be changing the linkage arragement, for more leverage in the nutural position. Unfortuanately this will end up with the linkage outside the wing surface. But better to have that than worry about the speed. Dummy radial is in and with the the cowl flps open 50% had no heat issues.
Does anyone know were to get a 1/5 scale decent pilot figure, most out there are 1/6. Overall pilot height would be 14". Having a heck of a time, don't want to install to small of figure.
thanks

Haven't posted in a while. So here is a little update. Now have nine flights on the T28. With one complete flight by yours truely. Lyle has been working out the landing sequence. At 40oz psf it does not float with the flaps extended. (Kit design will take about 5 lbs out of the airframe) Changing to pretty much standard linkage on the aerlions made a great deal of difference, no more flutter and much more positive reaction. The GT80 pulls the bird very well and with a 24x8 prop pulls it through a very large loop. Dummy radial is installed (ended up making it myself with stuff laying around) working on the 1/5 pilot figure (carved from pink foam and using a 1/5 scale head) and the static prop for competiton. I'll post a few pics of these items this eve. Should be getting some great flight pics from fellow that took a ton of pic as a recent warbird flyin hosted by Steve Forrest in Sturgon Mo.

I promised a few pics of the dummy radial, static prop and the pilot figure. Well here they are. The prop hub is a Tru Turn 1 3/4" and is just the right size. Prop blades will be fiberglassed etc before painting silver w/ red tips. Pilot figure is carved from pink foam and then sealed w/ west system epoxy. will finished him up with head set and mic.

I know that this was a little late but I think that the plane you were looking at maskers was by Top Gun pilot Bob Patton.
He has sold the rights and mold to Sierra Giant, and they will sell the entrire kit. The fuse is fiberglass with rivets and pannel lines in the mold....
ORIGINAL: fliir

There was a gorgeous 23% T-28 at Scale Masters. The detail work was to die for! Check out the wing rivets and wingtip attach screws in this photo:

I cannot find them on the Instructions!

Thanks

hallo YAT-28E

the recommended Throws for the YAT,

I would say, Aileron 12 Degr. - Up and 10 Degr. down
Stab. 15 Degr. - Up and 10 Degr. down
Rudder max.

I havn`t flown my Yat antil now, but would take this rates. I will use Dual Rate.
Please show as some fotos of the complete finished model and the maiden Flight.
best of luck !!!
Franz

Awsome bird my friend. I bet where ever you go people will be scratching their heads and wondering what it is. Hey it just dawned on me, we are very close to each other here in Ohio. Would love to see it in person.

I too am building a T-28, as a novice I bit off more than I can chew and if not for Hal H I would not be as far along as I am now. I bought a set of scale flap hinges from John and have recently installed them on my own T-28.

Having done a 2 year stint in VT-2 (1969 – 1970) as an airframes mechanic in the Navy I have always been nostalgically fond of the T-28.

Just a little FYI. In Camarillo, California is C&J Sales. Chuck (sorry I don’t recall his last name) restores and sells T-28’s. I have counted as many as 13 there at his hangar at one time. Chuck is a really nice guy and has let me come in and take reference photos a number of times. (I live just 12 miles from Camarillo). Some of you may be aware of the book by Steve Ginter, “North American T-28 Trojanâ€, Chuck bought all the remaining copies of this book he still has I believe a case of them, he was kind enough to part with one I refer to.

For those of you interested in the YAT-28 he owns to the best of my knowledge one of the remaining 2 or 3 of them. I took this picture of his in his hanger, undergoing a long term restoration.

That Yat looks great. My Dad had one of those kits, it flew great till it found a tree cause of a radio failure. I really wish someone would make a kit again. I am trying to find one on ebay but no luck so far. Good luck with the maiden, let us know how it goes!!!

Tony,

I found the kit online @ 7-8 years ago! It was a needle in a haystack!
I had to make my own canopy as the one in the kit had a crack!

I wish I would have paid attention more back in 78 when my dad was kitting this plane! I might have gobbled up a few for the attic!!

YAT-28, All i have to know is......How do i get one. You do amazing work.

I have Bridi (Great planes) T-28 which is the exact same dimensions as your kit. I believe both of these are based off of Platt's 1966 plans (which i have as well) that are now available through the model magazines (RCM maybe). Any idea how to get one of the kits you built, where did you finid yours? Nick

Gary,

Thanks for the compliments. Thanks for the conversation at the NATS as well!

Well, we maiden her last week in preperationd for the AMA NATS.

The flight needed some trim, not bad and the landings stick!
I am working out a few bugs with the nose gear.

Went to the NATS in Team Scale and took 4th.

The Static killed me as it was hard to get info on the bird!

Thats ok.... I will try to get more for the 82" version

Thanks guys

What is there left to say? Oh, how about a turbine powered one for real?

thats all it takes.....right?

I think John who flew the pitts want to make a 100+ size as he has a turbo prop already!!

Thanks we had a blast!!

It was a pleasure to meet you as well and I may be in contact regarding some adjustments to help the flight characteristics!
I will hopefully post some in air photos

Would anyone else be interested in obtaining scale machined wheels & tires for the T-28?

I have contacted Glennis Aircraft for a quotation on a set. Assuming the price is reasonable I have an actual T-28 wheel I can send them as a pattern. I plan to have a phone conversation with them tonight regarding any possible discounts for multiple quantity orders. I have also informed them that what is needed is 1/5th and 1/6th scale wheels.

NAVY,

If you fly you might want some more aileron throw as we flew on high rate which to me seemed more like 20*
