Thanks Vern for the suggestion, I’ll give it a try.

Blue sky and soft clouds are the only background to this image. The main subject (Focke Wulf 190) is in focus and the sharpness draws the eye to it.

Thanks for getting us back on track Phil.
That is one of the crispest images I've seen of an RC plane in flight.
What size is the raw image form the camera?
Very Nice!

Right Phil,

Please be aware, I find nothing wrong with the original as posted, it is a great shot. I just thought you might give the other a try for comparison. Great thread!

The raw image right out of the camera is 8MB. Once processed into a Tiff image it grows to 23MB with an original print size of about 9X12. I can adjust the file and print size as needed without loosing too much detail.

Here is a low shot of Rene Alvarez's BAE Hawk.

Very nice, Phil! Almost looks like heat distortion in the background.

Taken at NAS Pensacola on 8/09/08. An inaugural event presented by the National Museum of Naval Aviation to celebrate flight. This model was unfortunately lost due to receiver issues.

Looks like we're back to the ol' "Photos of Scale models" syndrome.
Nice models though... but[]

Hello Mike,

I guess what David is getting at is this:

Photos of models in front of a blue sky are not much of a challenge in terms of making them look realistic. "All" it takes is a scale model. Any great scale model will look "scale" in the air, with nothing but clouds and blue skies as background. However when taken on the ground the true photorapher's challenge begins: How do you make them look real in front of "giant" trees, too big grass, grain of concrete and so on... And the pics you posted of the Albatros and the Pub - well - there seems to be something wrong with it in terms of the trees and bushes being too big... depth of field not being large engough...

And since this thread originally was meant to be a photographer's thread, not a modeler's thread, may-be he's got a point.
The idea: challenge your skills in the art of photography in such a way that your picture of a scale model will fool us, the humble viewers, into believing, it might be a full size original.. The greater the challenge in doing so, and the smaller the use of electronic aid, the more praise you will receive on this thread. E.g. a model in the foreground on an airport with full size airplanes in the background, may-be in front of an open hangar even, with people walking around and so on: Now compose and illuminate the picture in such a way that we will not be able to tell which is the model and which the full size...

However, as he said: great models! I would have missed the pictures, had you not posted them. So please don' t take offence! Do not remove the pictures... !!!

thanks,

Martin
