Anthony,

You are working faster than I can type. Looking better but I think that the bottom need to be flatter and parrallel to the table more.

John were all these measurements you just posted 1:1. So I will need to reduce them to 33%?
I am going to make another adjustment It's all part of the fun

Anthony,

In the Pica Waco thread they are 1:1. In the above reply the are for the 33% (I did the math for you).

OK,
I just did another adjustment to the bottom of rib #12, I took about 1/2 of the angle out of the bottom of the rib. The pic of the full scale is not quite parrallel with the saw horse and I think my rib has the same angle, see what you think.

Anthony,

The lower rear is looking much better. The front need a little trimming but I am puzzeled by the round nose (LE) on rib 12. The full size rib is flat to fit against the inside of the Tip Bow. I might leave it for now and use the sanding block to shape it in place.

John here is a pic of I hope my final shaping.
The L/E stops at the previous rib and a large block of balsa gets glued between #11 and #12 at the L/E, this will be shaped down for the L/E.
I worked on the bottom front of Rib #12, see what you think.

Anthony,

Looking good now. I was not thinking of the large block being inserted and carved. A suggestion - Use some blue or pink Styrofoam for your tip blocks and possibly make a mold for fiberglass tip covers and ditch the weight of the wood blocks. On the other hand, the Tip light will mount just outside of the front of rib 12. Something else to ponder

John thanks for your help!!
No turning back now, I flipped the wing jig over and set it up to do the left wing panel 1st to follow the directions as they are written. The ribs are in their proper location and the top spars are glued into position, I will let that cure a while then flip it over and add the bottom spars.

I have the wing flipped over on the jig and the bottom spars glued into place. The strut attachment plates are epoxied into place. I will let this cure for a couple of hours, while that is curing I will add the 1/8 balsa shear webs to the back side of the front spar.
A couple pics so you can see how it is looking.

Anthony,

I would like to see a photo that is taken from the leading edge, showing at least the tip, and back about 6 ribs. That is the view that will getcha at scale contests.

Yeah the front view has me a little concerned, I think I may have to adjust the bottom of the next to last rib from the front spar forward just a little.
I will get you some pics when I get to that point.

I have the phenolic wing and aileron lead tubes inserted, I am holding off on installing the aluminum strut mouting plates. I am looking at making scale flying wires and mounting them in a scale location which will require modifying the existing plates and installing another attachment points. All this has to be decided on before sheeting the wing.
I will get this figured out and will contnue on, if I have to order some Items I will go ahead and get the aileron sheeted and cut loose from the wing and then start the next panel.
Later!!

A little good news,
I received a copy of the original sales sheet sheet for s/n 14132, thanks for putting me in contact John I now have all the information I need to replicate the paint scheme as well as the actual part #s of the gauges in the panels.
I have a 3 day weekend coming up and I will hit the Waco hard then.

Anthony, if you have any plans for functional headlights or wing tip lights now would be a good time to put in tubes for them.

I am going to run a pper tube for the wing tip lights in the top wing and one in the bottom wing for the landing lights. The existing lightening holes will fit the needs well.

Anthony, do you have a web site link to the place where you bought your pinking tape for the other Waco? Did it have a heat sensitive backing?

Ken,
Here is the web link, I have done business with Gary several times and he is a great guy.

The tape is cut from Solartex or Nelson's lit fab and it is iron on.

Ken,
I used 107 ft of rib tape on my Pepino Waco, I have not even looked at how many feet I will need for the 33%.
After alot of deliberation I have decided to use the stock flying wire set-up. Viewing the plane from 15ft will be hard to tell the difference and I think the planes look good either way. I wll make my flying wires from flat wire purchased from Proctor Enterprises. I will get back on the build this morning and see if I can't get the first panel completed.
Later!!

Anthony,
The reason that I was asking about the pinking tape was because a friend had called me wondering where to get some. He is the one who built the 50% Spacewalker II. He is now covering a huge Tigermoth that he built. It has all of the bells and whistles just like the Spacewalker.

Back to work on the Waco,
I have the strut/flying wire attachment points installed. The brackets come already shaped and ready to install, you just make a gauge block to set the depth of the bracket and tack glue into place then use a small "C" clamp to hold them in position while you drill 2 thru holes for 4-40 screws. I then removed the brackets and lightly sanded the side of the bracket that will be bolted againts the mounting blocks and applied a thin layer of Gorilla glue and gave it a light mist of water out of a spray bottle to activate the glue and quickly bolted them in place. This whole operation was very easy to perform and went very well. I can now work on sheeting the top side of the aileron then adding the remaining sheeting and cap strips.
Here are a few pics of the stut attachment points.
