Ken I am really itching to get paint on this thing. It's going to look sooooo good once I get some paint on it.

I have the bottom of the fairing in place and I have added some filler. Once that dries I will sand it smooth then mask the fuse off and glass the bottom of the fairings. As you can see by the pic this area needs alot of TLC.

Great news! Mitch just called me, and he has just been awarded the Best in Show award at WRAM. It's great to be alive and playing with our Waco's.

Neil, it is sold by Proctor Enterprizes. I don't know if these 1/4 scale Wacos are sold direct from Barth.

I have the bottom side of the fairing ready for finishing. As usual I have changed my mind about applying glass. I will dope down some Koverall and then fill it with PolyC. The fairing is very stout and I don't need the extra strength of the fiberglass. I have a good fit at the wing and a nice blend to the fuse. I will cover onto the masking tape then trim the Koverall at the egde of the tape, should look good when finished.

I applied the Koverall to the fairing bottom and it turned out nice. I did find out one thing 3M vinyl masking tape does not like Nitrate Dope. The tape got really soft and left the adhesive on the plane. I will have to clean that off later. I will let the dope cure until tomorrow night and then apply the PolyC to fill the weave. It will take about 10 coats to make the surface slick.
This was one of those jobs I was really dreading and it's nice to have it out of the way and especially since it turned out pretty good.

Not much to show just applying the PolyC to the fairings. Should finish then up tomorrow and have it reay for primer.

Hi,

It's been a while since I read the thread. (I was busy studying).
This build is going great! I was very shocked to read about your wife, Anthony.
I hope she is doing well.

Greetings,
Kim

Hi Kim,
My wife is doing better, she has completed all the chemo treatments and is almost half way thru the radiation treatments. The chemo was very rough, the radiation just makes her very tired and getting a pretty good burn from it. She will be seeing a plastic surgeon before long as well.
It finally feels like I am getting somewhere with the build and if I can keep the momentum going I should be ready for flight in April.
Later!!

I managed to get all the coats of PolyC on the fairing between last night and this morning before I went to work. I came home and gave it a sanding and shot it with primer. I am a happy boy, the fairing looks good. I am very happy with how it mates up the the fuse, I will install some screws around the edge where it meets the fuse just to make it look a bit better.
Now I have to think about the door to the front cockpit and the access panels in the boot cowl.

Lonnie,
The templates supplied on the plans worked very well, I had to trim a little off of them where they meet the fiberglass. I just let them overlap and marked then cut. It did take a bit of sanding around the edges to get the blend correct.

Anthony,

Thanks,
The Waco is coming along just fine and I know it won't be a contest winner but I think it will look good. The average guy will not notice that areas that I have deviated from scale. Unfortunately most of the guys here aren't average

Nice Try Bill

I have taped down some sheeting to cover the left side of the fuse to give me a base for laying up a door out of Fiberglass but for some reason my resin does not seem to be curing. It has been a long while since I have used any of it and I am sure I put enough hardener in? If it doesn't kick soon I will take it off and try again later. I do have some aluminum flashing and I could try to form a door. I may try that if the resin fails.
Later!!
Anthony
