Hi Scott,
Glad to see you have your replacement parts and you are making progress.

For the screws I ordered them from Micro Fasteners, #2x1/4" Pan Head Sheet Metal Screws P/N SMPP0204. 100pcs for $3.25 (see attached pic). I would order 500 screws. It doesn't take that many but if yo are anything like me you will drop one for every 4 you pick up.

I am really happy with how the paint is turning out on the Waco, my goal was to make it look better than before and I am sure it will at this point. Not perefect but better.

I have a batch of paint mixed up and I will be spraying the top wing panels, tail feathers and the landing gear shortly. I will post some pics later when the masking comes off.

Later!!

Another round of painting complete.

The stabs, elevators, top wing panels, landing gear and struts have been painted. I pulled all the mask except the wing panels which will have to wait until tomorrow. Tomorrow I will start masking the fuselage, fin and rudder. These items will probably get painted on Saturday.

So far the paint job is coming together pretty good. The pics taken with artificial light make the insignia blue look black.

Thanks Robert,

There are flaws, I just pic the right camera angles and I will not point out the flaws

There are a few things that aren't scale or a craftsmanship error here and there but overall I am happy with it. I am dead set on having this thing ready to fly in 10 weeks and I still have ALOT of work to do. 10 weeks goes by pretty quick.

Anthony, I use the same excuse, camera angle and lighting.  But keep in mind we are our own worst critiques, right?

Hey, that looks fantastic!  You can see the amount of time, talent and experience you're putting into it.

Oh, and the screws, anytime I have something small in my hand, it's almost a guarantee it's going to drop on the floor and instantly disappear!  Then I'll spend the next hour or two searching for it if I ever find it at all!  I could go on about loosing things but.....

Glad to see you're still moving around too.  Keep it up!

Nice finish on the paint. Looks sweet. Perfection is hard to achieve, but looks to me that your pretty close to it. Glad you're feeling well enough to continute your work. So do you think you'll use this paint again? My guess...yes.

Hi VJ,
Yes I will use the paint again. My guess is my 1/3 Spacewalker will be painted with the standard SW pattern but in the same colors as my Waco. I like the White/Insigina Blue/Gold combination. Has a nice classic look to it.

From what I have seen from the paint so far it is very easy to work with and it should hold up very well. I also see it as being very easy to keep clean even without a clear coat applied. The extra $$ for this paint is well worth it.

I went to start masking the fuse for the blue and I am not quite happy with the coverage of the white paint low on the aft end of the fuse. Also the tail fairing needs another coat of white. I decided to go ahead and mix up another batch of white and spray the fuse and tail fairing again. Better to do it now than kick myself in the butt later.

Thanks TK,
This is one plane I just had to rebuild, too nice to just give up on it.

I am also watching your big Fokker with interest.

I have the fuse, fiberglass hood, fin and rudder masked and ready to spray this morning. Can't wait to see the fuse all painted.

Yesterday I picked up all the pinstripe tape I will need as well as 2 quarts of Dupont NASON clear. Should really bring the gloss out on the Waco.

I am going flying at noon today, it is supposed to hit 60 deg today and winds of 5 mph, too good to pass up I will unmask the fuse when I get home and start sanding parts and applying pinstripe tapes.

Later!!

I sprayed the fuse and the other parts this morning then went flying. Was nice to ge back out to the field and ge some flying in.

I just got home and removed the masking from the fuse and all is good. Other then a few small fitting and the windscreen frames everything is painted. Time to start sanding parts and putting down some pinstripes. Man do I have a mes to clean up.

Nice Anthony.  That blue sure does come out black though in the pics.  Mind if I stop by some time to see it in person?

Woo-hoo!  Sounds great!  I'll PM you my address so you can send the airline tickets.  BTW, my wife and kids probably want to come too.  Hope you have enough room in the house.

I sanded the cowl and put the gold pinstripe in place. I will work on the top center section and tail feathers in the morning. I would like to get enough done to spray a batch of clear tomorrow. I am really curious to see how it looks with the clear gloss layed down.

I hope,
It doesn't look that good right now after sanding. The clear should fill the scratches and bring the gloss back out. At least that is what everyone keeps telling me I am more than a little nervous scuffing up the nice shiney paint.

Looks fantastic. Just curious since the paint was glossy and resistant to oils and fuel what will the clear coat additionally give you? Is it to give a level smooth coat to the different colors that were applied?

There are some minor impercetions in the paint ie: orange peel, lint and who knows what. A little sanding smooths all that out. I have never had luck getting pinstripe tape to stay on a plane and the clear coat will seal the pinstripe in place. Also I had a decent sixe ridge left from the tape along the edge of the blue. I am sanding this out so it does not show up in the pinstripe tape. I switched to 600 grit paper.

Now in the clear coat I may wind up with lint etc: in the clear. I talked to a detail painter at the paint store and she said these minor imperfections can be sanded out with 1500 grit paper and buffing compound.

It all may be overkill but I want the finish to really shine on the plane when it is done.

I have the cowl, top center section and the wheel pants cleared. The finish and gloss turned out great.

The stabs elevators and aileron's have one side sprayed. By the directions on the can they should be dry enough in an hour to turn over and spray the other side. I will post some pics after while.
