Okay Everyone
I just finished my 1/3 Scale Balsa USA Sopwith Pup. It has a GT-80 for power and a Mick Reeves dummy radial. The dummy radial weighs 1 lb by itself. After adding 4 lbs nose weight the total weight is 37.4 lbs. Balsa USA states in thier instruction booklet that thiers weighed 29 lbs with a G-62 for power. I am suspect of thier statement. I am curious if anyone else would share how much thier Pup weighs and its power. I will post a picture of mine shortly as it is cloudy today. Thanks All

There is a huge 1/3 pup thread on the board with lots of info, but I have seen them listed as 29 to upper 30s ...adding weight always stinks, but this plane has so much wing it will still be a kite...probably even at 40 pounds...

Thanks foodstick. I have read many of the threads in the forums and I am only trying to get a concensus of what other Pup's have weighed. I build all of my planes light however for some reason this one came out heavier that I expected. I know that the engine will be plenty with the wing area. Thanks again.

Hi Zero
I decided to use the GT-80 in my pup as well. Certainly more power than what is needed but throttle control keeps the beast realistically under control. A G-62 is plenty of motor but the several pilots that I talked with that had a G-62 set-up all said they needed two or three "Klidesdale shoes" up front to balance. My pup is right at 30 lbs. including a smoke system and servo's were mounted under cock-pit; no extra weight to balance was required. Sucker floats like a kite!

mine was at 31 lbs in the beginning with a g-62 added smoke and a few more lbs ended up at 37 lbs, at 37 it made it much more enjoyable to fly on windy days. and still a floater at 37

Congrats on finishing your Pup! any photos?
interesting the power to weight ratio on models. The full scale airplane we just finished has 150 HP weighs 919 lbs empty and has 254 Sq ft of wing!

I am going to use a Saito 57cc four stroke twin to power my 1/3 PUP.
This engine is spark ignition and petrol, it islow reving engine for a Saito (7000rpm) so I should be able to swing a big prop.
Hope you enjoy.

are you the guy who makes the 1/3 scale turnbuckles at that URL?
:-) My Pup is still in the early building stages... but it's never too early to plan.

Teus is the guy you need to talk to about 1/3 scale WWI turnbuckles. His are absolutely perfect. Do a search on RCU then send him a PM.
